Then you see President Goldwater on the news repeating his solem vow that America will never put boots on the ground in Vietnam.

You've retained all your knowledge, skills and experience..... Well in your case I guess just knowledge and experience but you're now stuck in a phantom 1965 timeline where things are similar yet alternate and your understanding of history is not reliable.
