I mean it kind of did evolve going from pre-rendered 2D sprites from 3D models to an actual 3D model but I understand what you mean. I found the old look interesting too.

I'd love to see indie games using that very niche graphics style. Hell, a true Donkey Kong Country 4 in SNES style would be my dream game.

Yeah, I definitely prefer the old art style. None of the new enemies or environments had the same charm. It was just a different type of cartoony art style. I'd like to see a remaster/3d "remake" of the original 3 that attempts to keep the same feeling.
