...does it make sense for a guy from WW1 to immediately know how to pilot a jet from 1984?

I feel like that's a plot contrivance, but I honestly know nothing about airplanes and the like -- are they that similar over the decades where Steve could've actually sat down and immediately known what he was doing?

no, it makes no fucking sense. its equivalent to a guy with no experience with engines immediately knowing how to operate a high end motorcycle all because he used to be really good on a pennyfarthing...

Also I love how the jet was going like 30 mph when it was flying through the fireworks lol all I could think of was Batman Forever and Batman & Robin while watching this, it was soooo cheesy and campy just like those movies, for no reason.

She makes a wish on a wishing rock that grants wishes, and his soul possesses some random dude's body. The audience just sees Chris Pine instead of the actual body's appearance because that's what Diana "sees" after realizing it's him.

No one really bothers to care about the fact they've taken over some innocent man's body and are using it to facilitate a lot of illegal stuff to get Wonder Woman's stuff done.

Is it even safe to pilot a jet straight through exploding fireworks?

Flying's actually pretty easy. You just flip a couple of levers and steer.

I would think flying an air force jet through fireworks would be hella dangerous for the people on board, and also the people on the ground since the jet is flying in the dark, under 1000 altitude lol just a dumb pointless scene in general

Flying is honestly no different from driving a car. Once you learn, you can realistically jump into another and figure it out pretty quickly. Electronics weren't that advanced in 1984 type military aircraft so there's probably a lot of familiarity. Now if it was say an F-35 he jumped into? Oh yeah he'd be lost in the sauce.

Just bad movie all around, I was so disappointed. Mandogenie was a real bad villain also, I think it's the first role I hated him in.

Basic flight handling hasnt changed since WW1, and if anything is easier now than it was back then.

Same goes with start up; these planes arent meant to be excessively complicated to get flying as thatd defeat half the point of developing anything past a point.

The only implausible part of that scene was how fast they were able to get up into the air, because regardless of how long it would have realistically taken for Steve to find his way around the cockpit, even an experience pilot couldnt have gotten a jet like that off the ground in the timeframe he did.

But thats a "movies gotta movie" problem.

No way that is true... I feel like any Air Force pilot would laugh at this scene. I mean someone with experience driving a car wouldnt be able to drive a semi-truck or Formula 1 race car across the country just because they took drivers Ed...

But like you said its a movies gotta movie problem, at least they explained it in the scene, which is why I dont have an issue with it

For the reason I said; planes dont start up the fast even with an experience pilot fully trained on the equipment.

Plus they also went to the trouble to show him actually flipping the wrong switches and searching for specific things he needs to flip, which is not something thats usually done when this trope is done in other movies.

And remember, he only just flew the plane. He didnt get into a dogfight, so your race car analogy doesnt work out. A regular person couldnt just hop into a race, but its still just a car. You wont have a problem driving it down the highway.

Likewise with semis, where the complexity to operate one has more to do with knowing how to drive it safely, not how to turn on the ignition and drive off.

He flew the plane from DC to Egypt (does an F-11 or w/e it was even have that much fuel capacity?), not just a quick ride. If you dont know how to properly drive a semi or race car, yes you can get it moving and steer, but the engine wont last for a 12 hour drive if you arent in the right gear, taking care of the engine, etc.

Yeah but thats a movie gotta movie problem not a plausibility problem.

The logistics of making that flight are of interest to nobody. They established that Steve has some idea of how to fly it (which he would, because again, basic flying hasnt changed since his time) and they even went so far as to show him actively trying to figure out the cockpit.

Theres countless examples of the same trope where they dont even do that.

WWI planes are relatively 'easy' to fly. One of the most common things to happen would be for them to stall out in a climb.
The dude in the movie would probably either taxi the thing right off the runway and into an obstacle, or oversteer if/when he got the thing off the ground. Or he would just rip the thing apart by going too fast.

They did have a section right before this where they hung out at the air and space museum and he was really interested in how flight had advanced, I could certainly give it a pass and say that he was really looking over the "modern" aircraft.

Lmao good point.

Also, ignoring the fact that a lot of the 80s stuff he already had back in the day, how come it took him until that montage for him to marvel at it all? Didn't he stalk Diana across town before they met? Surely, he must've seen an airplane and an escalator during that time.

This comparison would only apply if hijacked a concord, helicopter, or passenger jet. It was just a more advanced fighter aircraft which is something he has a lot of experience with.

It might have taken him a while to understand the cockpit but once it was actually in the air the manual flying controls are the same.

They are completely different...
