Governments need to regulate businesses harsher. That's why we have the top 1%.

Trickle Down Economics doesn't work and never has.

You're going off the rails. What does any of that have to do with the fact that no one forces you to get a 9-5 job?

People are lazy af. I would kill for 9 to 5. I do 7 to 7 and usually it's more like 630 to 9

Not laziness. My shifts generally match yours and I still think the "9 to 5" work pattern is garbage for most people. I don't expect healthcare to be able to work around what is good though, which I work in, without infinitely more people in it. But for most everything else? The office jobs etc? Very little reason they have the schedule they do save tradition. It's not productive, burns people out quicker, stops them actually enjoying their life as much as they can and less family time.

So not true. The mass majority of people are not afraid of work. It's the fact we have let society beat us down with the nonsensicall concept of 40 hours a week.

But let's be real, we are not ACTUALLY working during all those 40 hours. I may be at work 8-4 M-F, but I really don't work about 10 of those hours.

But your right. Imagine an easy ass 9-5 job where you're browsing reddit and gamefaqs for most of that time and people still complain about it.

Proves my point that people are generally lazy. Americans overall have shitty work ethic. Tends to be mostly millennial and young people tho that are the laziest.

You sound like a workaholic, do you work 5 days and do you have a desire to NOT be at work so you can enjoy life ?

What are your hobbies and why do you do a job that is 7 am to 7 pm, you waste an entire day at work with little to no time for fun.

There are so many useless jobs at this point in our society, so much time wasted toiling away at nothing. If we collectively managed the moving parts of our society better, wed only be working maybe 16 hours/week by now.

im in medical training so I work long hours. I have a ton of hobbies, I still fit it in my schedule.
I wake up at 5am every day to work out, get to work on time. On my 25 min each way commute I listen to audiobooks because I enjoy reading. When I get home I watch some basketball while I eat dinner, then read something else for like 30 min before I sleep at 9 ish. On weekends I do other stuff that I enjoy like sometimes play video games, watch some soccer, watch football, do stuff in the garage, etc.

Because you can reasonably get most work done in less time than that, plus they mandate you take like half an hour (at best) to an hour (at worst) unpaid lunch break that just extends the amount of time you're at the office.

That wouldn't even be so bad if they acknowledged you don't *actually* have 8 hours of work to do(in most jobs) and allowed you to do whatever with the understanding that you would drop it and get down to business when something came up.

Well I can say for most people the traveling to and from work is the problem, even I have grips about that 40 min to an hr drive to some places, but other days its 24 minutes at most.

Your commute is very short which is why that works for you, if you had a longer distance to go I doubt you would be able to make as much time for fun things.

As much as I love dumping on modern work ethic, I do think there's legitimate issues in the workplace.

Hourly salaries combine with any business not being able to magically generate customers to provide useful work leads to listlessness at best, pointless soul sucking bureaucracies at worst as people try to fill time to look busy and productive or be sent home without pay. Nothing sucks the energy out of your day more than dealing with reports that only seem to serve the purpose of a micro manager fishing for information, but you let it happen because, well, getting your work done early isn't good if you need your full pay, so you let it happen because slowing your efforts down only goes so far, and isn't much less draining. Face it, there isn't much reward in being a keener in a lot of work environments so even if you love your job and would give more, there's little to no reason to.

People blame capitalism, but I think it's really just shit management. The people in charge really don't know how to empower, train, or motivate people much these days. Reward structures are absent, duty balancing is non existent (thus people like you get overworked), and frankly, to feel useful and in control they put in those annoying bureaucracies to justify their own job. And all that is without any active toxicity or outright incompetence that can kill motivation.

Surveys show 3/4 of people of having bad bosses (unsurprising considering how often charisma is more important than qualifications for getting these positions), so while I think people need to accept their jobs aren't always going to be fun or fulfilling and not every task is a waste of time, I get the cynicism from those that not only don't see a light at the end of the tunnel, they don't even see the tunnel. Believe me, I've been there.
