It's thoroughly mediocre, and proved to be better than Batman vs. Superman and Justice League.

Really, we could sit here and rehash this topic for the umpteenth time, but my opinion is that there *is* the germ of a really great film and a good character arc, but Snyder was/is too hamfisted and edgy a director to deliver on his own premise, at least in this case.

The tornado scene was insane. How did anyone greenlight that?

It seemed pretty faithful to how I imagine Jonathon Kent would behave in that situation. And Clark wouldnt disobey him about that.

All in all its better than any other way of offing him. We got to see Superman learn his early lesson of never revealing himself so we could then watch him decide how to keep his promise and still save people.

Its a thousand times better than the 1980 version where he just has a heart attack.

Mediocre at best. Full of vapid, empty symbolism, washed out visuals and lame editing. I thought the opening on Krypton was drawn out and cluttered, and everything was so miserable that it was a slog to watch.

It's the most bearable Snyder movie, but the seeds of Snyder's biggest issues took root here. But what do you expect from a guy who summed up his artistic vision as "in one of my movies, Batman could get raped in prison"?

1) Mama Kent basically told her hubby to go into the path of a tornado to save their dumb fucking dog and at no point is it even hinted at that she feels bad about that

2) The tornado just passes over him as if it has next to no lifting power. It looks dumb as fuck.

I think its a good movie that was executed poorly, if that makes any sense. Like theres something good in there... they just made a bad movie with it.

But...they don't need to off him. Superman doesn't need a tragic backstory where a parent dies. Hell he already has that with Krypton.

Its a fine movie. I like when well known characters have a different take, but the problem is you can't just take a well known character and tell a story that makes no sense. Superman doesn't need to be the Superman everyone knows and loves, especially in an origin story, but should be at least by the end of the movie. And judging how later DCEU movies went, I don't think Snyder really understood what kind of character Superman is (Or most other DC characters tbh).

I don't think it needs a lot of changes to make a really good movie. I'd say its like a 6-7/10. Its a solid movie that is pretty well done but has so many things holding the movie down it can't really be "great".

I remember being so hyped when the first trailer came out and then as more info came out about I just lost interest in it. Then I finally watched it and hated almost everything about it. That tornado scene and the final laser beam scene enraged me, I felt so insulted that they really thought audiences would buy that crap.

It's the furthest thing from Superman, that Superman could be.

That isn't necessarily a disqualifier from being a good movie. It can still be worth watching despite being a dramatic reimagining.

I think the problem is we already have several movies that are better than what Man of Steel wants to be. A classic Superman movie would have been more refreshing.

It still has the best flying and combat of superhero movies so I like it for that. Superheros ragdolling each other through buildings is what we need more of
