Instead of the Ryzen 3700X / RTX 3080 rig ($2000ish) I briefly had

The Ryzen 5600X actually outperforms the i9-10900k in gaming despite half the power requirements.
Overkill? Sure.

But you go big or go home, right?

It's also a crazy Tesseract PC

With a 3090 I don't have to worry about VRAM limitations like I do with the 3080.

And what games were you hitting VRAM limitations on?

I thought the problem was you didn't like it on the TV.

No, the issue mostly was the fact that nearly every game at 4K was riding up close to the 10 GB VRAM limit on the 3080 and it was pretty clear it wasn't going to last.

Nearly everyone on GameFAQs made fun of me for it a few months ago when I asked what they thought.

I don't get why - it looks awesome and it gets extremely good airflow due to how the plates aren't sealed at the edges and there's 5 fans

Yes if you buy the prebuilts.
I selected all the parts myself.

The MOBO - ASUS TUF, CPU - Ryzen 5600X, RAM - T-Force RGB, SSD - 1TB WD Black, etc

PSU is Thermaltake

Basically the cables are the only thing they can choose at random

A case with a mesh front would cool better with one fan while being quieter

The fans being too close to the glass makes them work a lot harder to still barely get any air into the case. It's not "extremely good airflow" to have four intakes that are mostly choked.

But the Cube's design isn't all for show. The PC supports up to four 120mm front fans and a single 120mm rear fan, ensuring steady airflow during intense gaming sessions. Thanks to its dual-chamber design, you can stuff all manner of high-end components into it without worrying about them overheating one another.

The fact that there's a 3080 Ti coming up that is between the 3080 and 3090 in compute units but doubles the RAM to 20 GB is proof that the 3080 really isn't future-proofed in VRAM.

I think they'll release another bigger jump when the updated PS5 Pro or whatever it is comes out - they're aware of it happening and will finally get the card for the gen done

3090 is a ripoff for gaming lmao, I'm pretty sure you've acknowledged such before TC. For gaming only you won't ever hit close to all that VRAM before your next card. I'd wait for Nvidia's next $1000 3000 series offering, or just go with a 3080.

Because of the way I stacked the discounts, the cheapest I could make a 3080 version of this PC was $2,700

So $2,950 is worth it IMO

also Eel is well off and Darth has a sweet rig iirc, so I don't see why they'd care about that angle either

I bought this laptop last year on clearance.

I briefly had a Ryzen 3700x / RTX 3080 desktop but returned it within the return window because I thought I'd wait either for a custom build or at least the 3080 Ti with more RAM.

So without all the discounts, this was a $3,800 build.

But I got:
A 1 TB WD Black SSD upgrade for free
An upgrade from 16 GB 3000 MHz to 32 GB 3600 MHz RAM for free
An upgrade to liquid cooling for free (although the 5600X is supposedly very cool)
5% off coupon
Additional 10% off end of year special

Most of those deals go away if I build the same thing with a 3080

So $2950 is a lot, but not really that much higher than a similar spec pre-built with a 3080.
