Do you think cancel culture has made us less forgiving?

The 64-year-old actor addressed the notion -- the practice of publicly admonishing and potentially ending the careers of public figures when they make remarks or take actions deemed inappropriate or insensitive -- in a video interview posted by The Associated Press on Twitter on Thursday.

"We live in this cancel culture of people airing and doing wrong -- either on purpose or by accident -- and there's less forgiveness in our world," the "Breaking Bad" star said. "I think we're unfortunately in a courser environment. I think our societies have become harder and less understanding, less tolerant, less forgiving."

Cranston said that as he's been asking himself "where does forgiveness live in our society?"

The actor said that he feels that forgiveness can be given to those who are "contrite" and "apologetic."

He explained that cancel culture is creating a division in which people are marked "out" or "in" depending on their behavior, making note that even "one mistake" can render someone "gone."

Bryan Cranston said that cancel culture has created 'less forgiveness in our world.'

Seeing public figures "ostracized for the rest of their lives" has prompted an idea: "I think we need to take a second look at that and exhale and realize that asking forgiveness and receiving forgiveness are not weaknesses, but are human strengths," Cranston said.

The Emmy winner isn't the only star to have questioned the value of cancel culture, as singer Williow Smith spoke out about the subject on an episode of "Red Table Talk."

"Im seeing people shaming others, like saying really terrible things, shaming people for what theyre choosing to say or shaming people for not really saying anything at all," said the 20-year-old star. "But I feel like if we really want change, shaming doesnt lead to learning."

I'm somewhere in the middle. I think it depends on what the person did exactly, and how long ago it was. and also if they have changed since then. like that topic a couple days ago about the 19 year old girl who said the n word on video when she was 15. and then a black student leaked the video when she tried to apply for a college. and it turned out in the years since she was now an ally of Black Lives Matter. but she lost her college shot over the video leak. I was against that.

What hes saying isnt wrong but this brings up something what celebrity has actually been canceled? The only people I can think of are those who committed obvious and horrible crimes like Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein.

So its weird to me that celebrities are always crying about it.

if he was a singer or didnt have a legion of fanboys he would have been fired and forgotten about

"Well this one has the oxygen of fanaticism to bring him back" isnt a defense of cancel culture in my eyes, if anything it's a condemnation of it.

This isn't surprising. He always seemed like a more forgiving guy. You know, not constantly angry and irritable.

The problem is when someone uses the phrase "cancel culture", some people think Harvey/Bill and others think Aziz/Chris Pratt. The people who fall into being cancelled or attempted to be cancelled are all over the spectrum. That phrase is just best to avoid.

I think cancel culture doesnt really exist for people who are already famous - they are basically above consequences after a certain point. Dave Chapelle got cancelled for his transphobic jokes in his one special and hes done like, three new specials since then and hosted SNL multiple times. Louis CK got cancelled and was back to working shows within the year. Basically the only people who have stayed gone are the ones who havent really pushed for a comeback.

As for forgiveness, theres plenty of it when the person being cancelled is genuinely contrite and apologetic. Dan Harmon got cancelled, did an apology on his podcasta damn good apology, basically a masterclass in apologizingand his accuser accepted his apology, public ally forgave him, and his career wasnt affected at all, its as though it never happened.

I would say if there is one problem with cancel culture, its that it really doesnt have any power beyond shaming people, so if youre shameless enough to ignore it or lie through your teeth to deny it there are basically zero consequences. The end result is that the people who really really deserve it dont end up facing any repercussions.

He like Milo said it's okay for people (at least gay men) to have sex with underage boys if the underage boys came on to them.

He said it years before Milo did. No one cared , then when Milo got cancelled right wing nuts brought Takei up and people went full on "But when he does it, it's cute."

And I brought him up solely because Shabalie claimed nobody would do it.
