Its not a bad thing, research found that people take less time off if its unlimited than if they have PTO thresholds.

Depends... I mean, if the work gets done who cares if people actually show up

I mean, if you're in an accounting firm and you have Psycho Tom over there who does nothing and is always on vacation.... but every month he manages to do his entire workload in a day, why shouldn't he have vacations?

Being as I never use all my available vacation anyway, I'd be indifferent about that aspect of the job.

It depends, as mentioned people tend to take less time off that way. But if the work culture doesn't suck then it's just on you to make sure you take the time off. My company has unlimited and I keep track of the time I take off to make sure I'm taking as much PTO as I was at my previous company and my manager encourages plenty of time off.

But also there's a ton of startups that say unlimited but then frown upon it in actuality.

In my experience 'Unlimited Vacation Time' means one, if not more, of three things.

1) We do not want to pay for PTO or sick days, especially if you leave, so we offer UVT as an end-run around that.

2) We monitor who takes vacation time and mark those who utilize it as 'disloyal to the company'.

3) We fire the people who utilize it the most as they are the most expendable/unimportant/contributing the least/etc.

As such I would say run away or at least be EXTREMELY wary of it!
