Current Events > My best friend's mom died from COVID. :(

Ive known her since I was 5, such a wonderful person and strong single mother. She was like a 2nd mom to me as well whenever id be at their house. She was just barely 60 years old and in perfect health.

As some of you may remember, my mom had COVID very early on when it became a pandemic and was circling the drain and on a ventilator, but then miraculously finally started turning the corner and recovered, so for the last 6 weeks ive been telling him Dont worry man shes going down the same road MY mom did 8 months ago, shell eventually plateau and then recover. Except once she got to the ventilator phase, she instead slipped into a coma and never woke up. :(

It feels more like she was killed than she died, like this is against the natural order of things and not how her life was supposed to end. All I keep thinking is If she didnt happen to go to that one random place on that one random day and interact with that one random person who happened to have COVID, shed still be alive. If she didnt move to Texas last year to live with Karla (my best friends sister/her daughter) shed still be alive.

He just called me in tears and I had no idea what to say. All I could muster was that him and his sister are two wonderful, happy, successful people and thats all because of their mom so they are her legacy so shell always live on. And she got to see them grow up, find love and get married and as a single mother who was also an immigrant that had to be what she wanted the most in life.

Just a horrible, horrible situation. My friend is always the most positive, joyful, pleasant and optimistic person in the world and ive never seen him like this in my life, his mom was his world so I think hell be broken for a very long time. :(

Super tragic, many of my friends have lost loved ones. One coworker's mom died in November and that was horrible
