I always take my dog out back on a leash so she can go to the bathroom in my backyard. The home across my backyard always has a lot of kids there, I don't know if she's a babysitter or something. A lot of them love my dog and I have had issues with them for a couple summers now where some of the little kids just couldn't stay away and would run up to the dog.

Sometimes the mom there would yell at them when the kids got too close because I am obviously a stranger with a huge German shepherd, and I was fine with that because I wasn't really interested in talking to kids.

However there is this one little girl that can't be more than five or six years old that will sneak over every single time, they were playing in the snow today and she comes walking up to my dog so I'm gripping the leash tightly and holding her collar just because I know this kid won't take no for an answer.

This time it seemed like my dog was so excited that she kind of jumped up a bit and nipped towards her hand, she noticed it and kept saying don't bite me silly don't bite me silly so she obviously didn't even get bit but she definitely noticed my dog tried to.

Now I am wondering if I have to put a muzzle on my dog every time I take her outside? I don't want to put her in a position where I would have to put her down for being a dog but at the same time these kids are relentless.

I'm confused, are the kids coming into your backyard? Pretty sure you can't get in trouble if a kid is trespassing on your property and the dog bites them.

This girl who got nipped at today is the worst culprit, I remember last summer she started walking towards me and I kept telling her to ask her mom for permission, she just said her mom wasn't there so I'm assuming my neighbor baby-sits her. I can still remember throwing out every excuse I could think of saying there was dog poop everywhere, that she was hungry and tired and that this wasn't a good idea and this kid just stared at me and walked up like a robot barefoot through the grass where there was legitimate a lot of dog poop.

I think from now on I'm either going to get a muzzle that I will just put on for her quick potty breaks, or I will have to start being an asshole towards kids. I will probably look for a muzzle on Amazon smh

Yes they are coming into my backyard, I have a small deck I sit on while my dog uses the bathroom just a few feet away in the grass, the kids always walk right up to me so they are at least halfway across my yard.

Put a little string in your yard that makes her trip and fall into poop.

That girl's life is going to spiral out of control and she may wind up with mental health problems which causes her to be homeless all because your dog tried to bite her.

Dont yell at her if the dog is around though, that could give it the idea you feel threatened by her and it could get real ugly from there.

I'd talk to the parents immediately, like today. In fact I'd write a letter expressing your concerns (dont say the dog has tried to bite and keep a copy for yourself) and insisting she stay off your property. Sounds dickish but you have to cover your ass, I'm currently suing the fuck out of my neighbor over their dog attacking my dog and I. Your life can get real shitty real quick if your dog bites someone especially a kid.

Excuses don't work with kids. Firm no does though specially from a stranger but the kids probably don't respect you now from what I'm reading. You been to flimsy with them.

Oh snaps. Good point. My dog reacts to my aggression by cowering, so I never think about that.

reading that, it makes me wonder if you put your dog slightly on edge with your body language -- particularly the part about the collar.

not that i'm saying you did anything wrong. just that those actions may have prompted a more anxious response than normal. your dog sounds well-behaved otherwise; you said she had no problems with the kids until this time.

short and simple, that kid needs to learn boundaries. and not from a german shepherd.

I have a rescued bull terrier, super friendly dogs but fiercely loyal and protective. I learned all about what can trigger a larger high energy dog's aggression and the biggest thing is they take their cues from their owner as far as how to interact with strangers.
When I have people or contractors over they ask if he's friendly and I say "he's cool as long as we're cool" lol

I wonder how aggressive my pit mix would be if I raised him >_>. I got him and he was already set in his cowardly ways. But I live alone, so I yell a lot during lil outbursts. I actually do it less because of how sad and anxious he looks when I do.

I dont think anyone's coming at him. I at least am genuinely concerned for him and his dog I completely understand where he's coming from. But regardless of whether he's right or not (he is), it needs to be addressed immediately to cover his ass as best he can. Or bare minimum documented in case the little shit keeps pushing and gets bit he can at least prove he did his best to reasonably prevent it. Versus kid gets bit a month down the road and says "oh yeah that dog tried to bite me before" and the parents wondering why he "didnt do anything". This is how juries and our fucked up litigious society thinks and works.

Unfortunately that and $5 will get you a mediocre sandwich. Right doesnt matter anymore, especially if a freaking kid is involved.
I got chewed out by a parent at an aquarium for telling a kid to get their hand out of the lionfish tank. Idgaf now, someone wants to let their kid do dumb shit as long as it dont involve me, more power to em.

I think you have a slightly delusional view of well-trained dogs lol, if a kid about eye height with a dog comes at them in their own yard looking to give them a face to face hug no matter how well trained many will crack.

I do wish that lady would pay attention more often, in the summer there are legitimately 10 kids outside playing and she will go 15 minute intervals without even looking out the window. this time there was only a couple kids outside though but they surprised me because they haven't really been out all winter being as it's super cold here.

My Aunt was walking down her street and her then 5 year old son ran up to a fence with a Warning sign about a dog. He stuck his face in and got bit.

She a lawyer took them to court. She got 11 million.

Half she gave to RJ, the other half she lived off of.

The family didn't even have that much money, she ended up trading the debt to loan sharks to enforce them to make the family pay so she got a smaller amount of cash all at once. (Was reduced to like 8 mil)

RJ ended up marrying a really beautiful model, though he beat her and ended up in prison and lost all his money spending it on parties and stupid stuff.
