So let me get this straight.

Ra's is thousands of years old. His league of Shadows that are designed to kill bad people and help create empires sucks so he planned to cleanse it with a new leader and in order to do that he took over the City of Gotham by creating the court of the Owls who secretly ran it despite seemingly not doing anything except researching how to raise the dead which Ra's can already do in the first place.

They succeed in creating Tech that can raise the dead, which despite being their goal they never use it again. Then Ra's has Bruce Wayne kidnapped by some random bloke to brainwash him into being a douchebag which lasts about 4 minutes. During this time he also kills the whole court of owls he created to run the city... for some reason... so I guess he's not running it anymore?

Meanwhile he's so impressed with Barbara.... The insane psychopathic selfish moron who has been on an descent of madness, paranoia and murder and it totally unstable... That after literally centuries of careful planing and consideration he literally raises her from the dead to have her be the chosen one to replace him and gives her the power to see the future... Which surely he had seen himself....

Then he goads Bruce into killing him.... for some reason..... To... do something..

Then he's brought back to life, is like "OMG why did you do that? I wanna be dead." but literally seconds later is like "Oh Barbara was an unstable lunatic and not a good leader? What a shock, better go stop her then" so he takes the power back and.... just kinda bums around? Not wanting Bruce to kill him?

I'm not following his master plan here.

I think the Court of Owls did the immortality stuff on their own. The League of Shadows wasn't happy about them killing the Waynes which kind of indicates that they'd been left to their own devices for a while.

He killed off the Court because he didn't need them anymore. He was going to infect everyone with the Tetch virus.

The real answer to all of the other questions is that Gotham is just really stupid, but I'll take a crack at it. I think you sort of have to take it on faith that Ra's is fulfilling a destiny he'd foreseen, so he's basically just following the timeline he thinks will lead to Bruce becoming his heir.

Tbf, the vision he had was Bruce rising up in a Gotham that was completely ruined. Giving Barbara superpowers is a good way to make sure Gotham is ruined.

I think Ras is one of those guys who simultaneously wants Bruce to be his heir but doesn't actually want to lose his power. So he'll just keep making up ridiculous scenarios not really expecting it to actually happen.

All else aside, how fucking good is Siddig as Ra's? I'd never thought of him for the role, but he's perfect casting.

I was hyped to hear he was casted as Prince Martell in Game of Thrones, but we all know how that turned out.
