I have ProtonVPN. I don't use it frequently.

It's always on when I travel and connect to a public wi-fi hotspot, but when I'm at home I generally just use it to get around regional video blocks on YT :|

I use ExpressVPN and it's been far more useful than I originally thought when it came to public and private (mostly work) networks blocking me from using Spotify, reddit, Hulu, etc. There's also anti-ping restricting and password generating features that are good for security and streaming/gaming.

Also useful for certain other stuff too...

yeah i hate those ads that are like "INTERNET HACKERS ARE LOOKING AT YOUR EVERY MOVE"

i mean, no. with https, its highly unlikely

and even if you were using an unsecured site, a VPN isn't gonna help with that either

i dont use it personally. as far as the public wifi excuse goes, now i'm not an expert at all, but why would using a VPN help with that at all? if a hacker has your credit card information or cookies or whatever, they have it. doesnt matter if you're on vpn or not. that prolly sounds really stupid, but thats why i'm posting it here, so someone can correct me.

some people say they use it to get around blocks on netflix, but i heard netflix has got it locked down pretty good and it's (near) impossible to do it anymore. i think people have only bought into it because of the aggressive advertising on youtube and other places.

Yes for my phone. Honestly the only reason I got one was because my jobs Wifi blocks an ass load of websites and I use a VPN to have no restrictions

@pojr If a person already has your credit card information no system in the world is going to help protect you except for a good theft protection department that's monitoring for fraudulent charges.

A VPN is useful because it encrypts *all* data coming to and going out from your computer.

When you're browsing to a website that uses HTTPS, that HTTPS connection is secure itself. But there's a lot of extra stuff going on that *isn't* secure in the background in your browser and operating system and other software programs themselves, and that kind of stuff can get intercepted or exploited.

The VPN protects all that stuff that normally *wouldn't* be protected.
