I don't want the police to beat indisciminately on anyone but we need to stop treating this like it's just a riot. These people are literally trying to subvert democracy and incite terrorism. This is not normal in any circumstance and should not be treated as such.

The police can definitely handle this better than how they are now, as is usually the case. The options aren't just "don't fight back" and "kill mode".

In a way this is probably the safest course of action when it comes to potential casualties, but you run the risk of causing more of this to happen down the line by just letting them go to town unless you eventually round the worst of them up and prosecute them.
