The last thing you want is attacking Trump mercilessly his entire term and then continuing attacking him months after he is out of office. It just reinforces the beliefs that they were out to get him all along. Need to settle it quickly as possible. They could work out details of their bills and such to pass while the trial happens.

What worries me about this is the reliance on Trump continuing to be as unpopular as he is right now. There's already loads of people saying we need to let Trump off as a show of national unity; won't this position be even more widespread once he's not an urgent threat?

I could be wrong, but I can see Trump becoming even less popular with the passage of time after hes gone. This may happen as more stuff comes to light, and also if Covid starts to come under control under Bidens administration.

I mean, actual criminals don't always have their court cases at the soonest possible second. I personally am fine with getting them right away, but if they want to pass other things in the senate - such as 2000 checks and other life saving measures, then that sounds ok too

What's the deal with Parler? Is it some kind of Twitter clone? I've never heard about it at all until the last few days, when suddenly conservatives are apparently jumping ship to it, but now suddenly Amazon is dumping it? What exactly happens there and why is it getting dumped?

Parler is a Twitter clone without moderation. Although, it apparently does have a TOS against calls for violence/criminal activity that has been largely unenforced.

It would be more like if there were a handful of bakery companies that made 99% of cakes in the country, and all of them refused to make cakes for a certain class of people. Or, I suppose, if there were a great many bakeries, and again bakeries with market share adding up to 99% refused to bake cakes for certain people.

When a company or a group of companies form a monopoly/duopoly, they have a much greater impact. An extreme example would be the East India Company, which was effectively the government of India and had a legal monopoly. The South Seas Company was granted a similar monopoly for trade with South America, except that in their case it was useless because there was no trade.

I think what I'm getting out of this is that large corporations in the US are too powerful and they should be broken up. Some of you will favor regulation but I don't think that will ever really work, and is a pathway to even more danger, if the regulator is the one screwing things up. The best way is aggressive use of the anti-trust law to break up corporations with excessively high market share.

It's hard to fault them here, yeah. But we have to be careful so that in 10 years if Amazon refuses to do business with companies who dislike Jeff Bezos, they have somewhere else to go. Or in other words, so that Amazon can't shut down the country at will.

I don't know why Parler's attorneys quit, but I am guessing Rudy would be happy to represent them in a breach of contract case against Amazon. Although they may not want to hire him.
