It's something we don't think about often enough, and we don't always think about what hazards people face that might surprise us.
I work with vehicles post-accident (including repo, stolen, and donated vehicles). Here's some of my daily hazards - shocks from batteries - cuts (some deep) from damaged metal on cars, windshields, and windows - needles/drug exposure (including fentanyl) - risk of crushing (by cars and the massive fork loaders we use in the yard) - fire risk - trips and falls (ice, uneven ground, car debris, ladders) - chemical exposure (oils, fluids, burnt vehicles, extinguisher fumes) - angry clients (our supervisor was assaulted on shift this year) There's more, but that's the big ones! --- Psn: beastlytoast Left-handed fire-slapsies leave me feeling confused about life. - Merydia ... I work in a working plant and there's no shortage of ways to hurt yourself. I've seen people lose fingers, get their hands crushed in a machine etc. Last year someone got their entire arm covered in hot-melt glue. They had to get a skin graft.
A few years back I put a staple thru my finger. I'm talking about one of the big staple guns that run on compressed air. It went right thru my nail and then out the other side and then folded over. They had to use plyers to unfold it before they could pull it out. --- Save for your doomed future ... Copied to Clipboard!

Other than standard warehouse hazards like heavy lifting, boxes potentially falling, forklift use, etc., I also have to watch out for chemical exposure and spills both in the shop and out in the parking lot. You'd be surprised how long it takes ATF to get washed away from the asphalt, and it's slippery every day until then lol

Typical risks from power tools and occasional heavy lifting.
I worked at one place where an idiot taped the trigger of his big as staple gun down since he was using it so constantly. He swung it around by the cord and nailed his dick to his leg with a two inch staple. Thankfully I didn't see it. A roofer died at a job site I was on by having his rope way too long and falling. He was also drunk it turned out later. A guy at another job caught his colostomy bag and t shirt in a belt sander. A dude got electrocuted once cutting some conduit that was supposedly all shut down. I nailed my hand to a floor joist once. Also had my right leg ripped open horrible on a giant glue lam machine when the safety mechanism fucked up and I had my leg a little too far forward. My current job is a lot of sanding and more light work but we use some big saws too and completed furniture is heavy af. 100% the same. Sometimes our operators will lower forks and wave you past, but always yield first. To be fair, at my workplace, we are not allowed to pass under the forks of the forklift. But the general rule is that it's our responsibility to look both ways and make sure that the forklift driver sees and motions for us to pass, they have no official impetus to stop at a walkway. It makes sense that they have to motion for us, and that we have to make sure they do, of course, but they have no instruction to stop at the intersection of a walkway unless they see someone coming. Only in areas where other vehicles (tuggers, other forklifts) traffic do they have explicit instructions and stop signs indicating for them to stop and look. There have been a couple of incidents where people have suffered injury because they walked into the path of a forklift, but I think that the incidents could have been prevented if pedestrians had the right-of-way at those particular spots, and if forklifts were required to stop and look. It also seems to be a bit of a covid deathtrap. Five or six people seem to get sick every week, and we've had a few people die of the virus as well. At this rate I expect them to consolidate the Moments of Silence, in which the line stop running in observance, in order to save production time, in the future, when this gets worse. --- Wubba dubba dubba is that true? ...
