I'm thinking of either going Breton for a magic based playthrough or going Redguard for a melee based playthrough. Playing on PC and I'm open to any mods as well but starting out as vanilla for now.

Magic has way more flexibility since you can create spells.

Magic is significantly better. The upward limits on the power of magic are galaxies higher than melee.

The magic is pretty diverse and incredibly satisfying fwiw
but I absolutely loved the way all the weapons looked like with the sun hitting it.. the silver and glass stuff especially looked pretty cool - it's fun to smash guards with an enchanted hammer and see them bend over and ragdoll like those inflatable dudes lol ... Copied to Clipboard!

Yeah, Oblivion is the worst of Morrowind and Skyrim. Oblivion has a couple fun questlines, but Skyrim actually rewards you for playing your wizard like a wizard, and Morrowind has the really detailed, hand crafted open world. I played a thousand hours of Oblivion in high school and loved every minute of it, but it just does not hold up.
