That looks broken. It's swelling to immobilize it. Sprains don't usually change color in my experience, but my broken leg sure turned red.

Can you move your fingers? How's the mobility in your elbow and what does your forearm feel like?

my sprain turned red on my foot and swelled up. i knew i had a sprain was able to walk on it the whole time while feeling plenty of pain.
i had to walk a mile home with it hurting badly. i could've called for help on my phone but i was too stubborn.

would avoid using that hand for sometime it might take a few weeks before it gets better.

I can move all fingers. Grip strength is improving. Elbow is fine. Forearm is tender turning one direction but otherwise ok.

i cant bend my wrist much. Down has more movement than down

Ask yourself this, are you willing to accept the consequences of it healing wrong if it is broken?

My weird-ass mom had a "three day rule" about injuries, so even though I strongly advise against it, you could try that: wait three days and if you still hurt as bad as on day one, go to the doctor. It was broken every time the rule was deloyed, so there's a good track record of it working...sort of. It's pretty damn cruel to do to a kid, but you're a grown-up.

I'm really sorry healthcare sucks so bad. I hope you're feeling better soon and it's just a gnarly sprain.

Does your hand feel numb at all? If not, it's probably a sprain, but still worth getting it checked.

You should be doing PRICE regardless.

My wife broke her wrist once and she could still move all her fingers. The bones in your wrist are very very small. Any number of them could be broken. Look at it this way, you don't HAVE to pay for the injury. Just wait 7 years and the debt will wipe clean or just tell the hospital you can't pay and give them what you can. Either way, fix your wrist if you care about snowboarding again in the future.

I would just show up man, you qualify for the ER because your bones are HEALING right now and the doctor may have to rebreak them to put them back in their proper place. This is a micro surgery we're talking here. These are neurons and nerves that will fire off for the rest of your life, even WITH the surgery (sorry man, shit's fucked), but you can make it LESS fucked by calling. Chances are you need a screw or a pin.

This is horrible advice. Medical bills dont just purge and having gone through bankruptcy I am quite certain of that. You are correct though in that you can negotiate a lower rate, hospitals are notorious for billing for services not rendered or $100 for two ibuprofen. Did they move you to a different room for 10 minutes and then back? Congrats, that 10 minute room was billed for a full days use at $3200. That's the shit you need to scrutinize if you go in.

Personally I'd be surprised if you broke it and still have the level of mobility you do, but it looks bad enough I'd probably have it looked at

our health system is such a fucking joke. Why must people risk their health (imagine risking getting a fucked up wrist for the rest of your life) because health care prices are basically criminal?

I am sorry TC :(

yeah Im nervous about the bill.

while Im glad surgery is not needed, literally all they did was give me a bigger brace.

meaning it would have have healed from what I was doing, but at least I know now

that is something I hate too. They dont tell you the price.

imagine you go to a restaurant and see Diet Coke in the menu. Turns out it can cost anything between 1$ and 400$, for a glass. So you ask the server and shes like hahaha, cant tell you, drink the soda and then we will tell you the price ;)

what the actual fuck?

theyre already pushing people to avoid medical care because of the prices, why not tell them the cost of front so people can at least make an informed choice on whether to spend the money or not?
