I wasn't expecting a happy ending but I feel like they didn't do right by most of the characters.

King Herald - I don't mind that he died but the way it happened was awful. Why was Herald running through the empty battlefield after each side went to regroup? It was awkward and made no sense other than they wanted him to have this one on one thing with that general in a quiet place so he could sing with his dead brother.

Ivar - Once again, don't mind that they killed him but it didn't make much sense. He basically commited suicide on the battle field instead of getting cut down while fighting. Would have much rather Alfred been the one to kill him.

Hvitserk - Was hoping he would have grown a bit in character but instead he converted to save himself. I read that after converting he found peace for the first time. I think they could have done a better job of showing that at least.

Ubbe - His story was fine. Him reuniting with Floki and going on to start a new colony was a good ending to his story.

tbh, I didn't really care for the final season other than Ubbe and his group finding Floki.

but then the whole thing with the guy stealing gold from the indigenous people there, and killing the leader's son felt like some forced drama.

yeah this didnt make much sense. Should have known better. Reunion was cool though.

do they ever explain his mind control bs? Where he plays puppet master on the battlefield.

ended up being one of the best fighters, nice growth

truly a spitting image of his dad. Good decision to kill his buddy for being a their/murder in their new world.

as someone who watched the show from the beginning, as it aired, I really liked Bjorn.

it was cool seeing him going from being a kid to this legendary warrior that people both respected and feared.

with that said, idk if he came off as the most charismatic character.

I also really liked Ivar, but he was only really interesting when he was being devious, IMO.

i thought it was fitting. They were very cemented in their ways. He couldnt help himself.

I feel like, they could have at least shown him asking about the gold first and being denied, and then he could have tried to steal it, leading to the same conclusion.

I stopped watching a few seasons ago. They went really hard on character assassinations until everyone was pretty much an unrepentant asshole. And the roundabout nonsense that went into getting Ragnar to his historical death was just silly. I watched a few episodes after the kids grew up but they were just assholes too.

I stopped watching a few episodes after Ragnar was captured and killed. As the series progressed it became more and more apparent to me that although the chatacters are portrated as if they're all cunning and constantly plotting against each other, but aside from Ragnar and Ecbert it felt like none of them had any idea what they were doing. Like no one really had a longterm plan and just happened to be in the right/wrong place at the right/wrong time.

they did. He asked someone about it when they first settled. Then when he went into the hut, he got busted

That was just a cinematic thing. His army is the embodiment of him and Alfred's is the same.
They did something similar when Ivar stabbed Bjorn in the other battle. It wasn't really Ivar that did that but a member of his army.

He's always been a great fighter and this battle really showcased it. I meant his personalty lacked growth.

Yeah I was hoping for another blood eagle but I understand why he didn't go through with that.

true, but iirc, that was not long after they met each other and still didn't understand one another.

I meant like something after they could better understand what each other was saying.

I feel like it went 0-100.
