I think the universal checks are pretty strictly worse policy than using the same money to extend unemployment benefits etc (thankfully Biden is doing that as well), though I've resigned myself to them being the move that people have decided is good politics

Waitresses become easily the highest earning jobs in my entire area. They make like $25/hr now after tips. You are basically adding $12/hr to their wages.

Most of the world that accept tips treat them like bonuses, while some countries treat tips as insulting.

In America weve managed to turn tips into how waitstaff pay the rent, so their bosses dont have to pay them.

Again... if you don't have tips anymore and you raise the wages to $15 an hour... the waitresses lose money and the work place is paying $11+ more an hour a head for waitresses.

Waitresses make more than $15/hr now with their tips. A lot of them don't even claim all their tips either for tax purposes to boot.

In turn, cause them to eliminate jobs, cut hours, reduce quality, and/or raise prices. Or you can keep tipping with $15/hr for waitresses and they now makes around $30+/hr (more than a lot of jobs we put a lot of expectations and community safety on the line for) while the company either eliminates jobs, cuts hours, reduces quality, and/or raises prices.
