I've worked with location services a lot when building Android apps, and just getting the location permission from the user basically allows you to do just about anything from logging their precise coordinates to the 10th decimal places (or more, but not really necessary), their altitudes, to what time they were there. On a system level, your location services are always active (btw, turning location off in the settings still keeps track of your location. All that does is turn the location services off for your apps, not your system), and there are system services that frequently transmit your location for whatever purposes, most commonly the emergency services as mentioned in the topic.

That should be obvious to some, but I think the biggest factor in Android is that the user will never know if their location is being used. In iOS, the status bar will turn a certain color if your location is currently being used, but I believe on a system level, they do very similar things with Android, and those will not be made aware to the user.

It wouldn't hold up in court though. If you aren't actually filmed being in the capital building or directly outside it all they can do is say you were in D.C. but not actually provide enough evidence that you did anything illegal.
Yes correct.

Arguing about whether or not it'll hold up in court is pointless. Most of the time they'll just confess without realizing they just confessed lmfao. I mean come on... these guys actively went somewhere to commit some level of crime thinking Trump will support them or something. They're not exactly the type of people to understand how the court works on even the most basic level

The only oroblem with that us reasonabke doubt. "My cellphone was stolen." But the network says you were there! "Oh yeah? Prove it."
There are cameras that would corroborate the person being there with timestamped video footage.

"That's strange it seems whoever stole your phone also made several purchases related to travel to and from DC in your name along with expenses that you never reported for fraud. They also happily used your social media, calls, and text messages, and then returned your stolen phone where you continued the conversations that the thief had.

OR

You're lying."

So, basically, even if they left their cell phone turned off and in the hotel room, they can still pinpoint that they were in the vicinity and determine through probable cause why they were in DC.

That's actually quite terrifying. I'd rather a couple of these idiots walk than for government technology to be that far-reaching.

<_<

Of course once they have your name, they can go through all of your data and records to see if you had any seditious thoughts or opinions on any of your social media profiles. Trumpers aren't exactly the most subtle of people, so it's not like just being in DC alone would be enough to sink you.

The average rate of arrests in America is 1 per 3 seconds. 100 in 5 days would be an incredibly slow rate. The majority of the time being spent right now is going through the evidence and securing warrants. Once they have all of it, they will arrest the rest of them far faster.

This is the dumbest "argument" I have read today at least. The arrests we are talking about are 1,400 - 100 = 13,000

and you @Tyranthraxus post this topic again when the people are being arrested at the rate of 1 per 3 seconds.
