Using the white lines as shadows on the dancer gives us a lighting perspective to give us definition to know which side of the dancer is the front and which is the back. The red and blue lines are giving us a left and right perspective in much the same way. Then the dancer spins. This creates a mirror like optical illusion and then tricks our brain into thinking that they are both spinning opposite directions. The dancer in the middle without any of these visual cues is Neutral and therefore assists in the optical illusion by reinforcing the illusion of whichever dancer you just looked at. The truth is without those colored lines, all 3 dancers are spinning the same direction, but since the dancers without lines lack definition there will be a frame or two somewhere in the dancers "dance" that doesn't distinguish between left or right, front or back.
