I'll grant you that it's a bit early to judge. But I let's also keep in mind that Dems now control both the executive branch and both houses of congress. There aren't a lot of excuses if he doesn't get a lot of shit done, and I for one am not expecting miracles from this guy

Ive seen it mentioned that the person who might be least happy about the Georgia runoffs might be Joe Biden. Dems have the trifecta so hes going to get yelled at a lot by progressives when he doesnt push their agenda all the time

Conversly, if you put it out there for bipartisan support and they only want to cram heinous shit into it, dems have the power to leave the table. By attempting a bipartisan agreement first, it sets the tone and opens the door down the road with much harder legislation.

Really depends on how much you care about legislative strategy and all of the remaining goals of the admin. It seems like with the current tenuous democratic majority it's going to be hard to get legislative shit through by betting on straight democratic voting, and I have no confidence that at least one seat wont flip at midterms.

Bipartisan support isn't gonna work based on what I've seen in the last 12 years. Maybe it's worth giving it a go for a couple weeks to see if it can work, but after that if it doesn't bear fruit there needs to be a quick shift to the mindset of "Fuck what the GOP thinks. I'm going to shove through everything I can." I don't think Biden has the balls to do that. Hopefully I'm wrong.

You need 60 votes to pass most bills in the senate, due to the filibuster. Multiple Democratic Senators, including Joe Manchin and Bernie Sanders said they are not in favor of removing the filibuster (because they know that when they are the minority party, it stops Republicans from pushing extremely partisan legislation through if they dont have 60 votes in their party). Cabinet level posts, and judicial noms already have the filibuster gone. Its how Trump shoved through so many federal judges.

The other instance where only 50 votes are needed is the reconciliation process (for budgetary matters). Covid relief would fall under this (but the $15 minimum wage that was proposed to be attached to this would probably not be, so itd be stripped out of the bill imo).

I get why Biden is dangling this over the GOP. He wants to get stuff accomplished when most bills in the Senate need 60 votes.

A lot of the lower class is angry that their lives suck and have been manipulated into thinking helping the rich helps them. It doesn't. Biden needs to be like, I want to make you more money, these people will tell you oil helps you but it only helps them, I want you to have the biggest pickup truck you can buy. Etc. Use the same tactics republicans use. Jesus would want you to have a stimulus check because he believed we shouldn't starve.

Everybody in Congress loves bill riders, they just usually cause a lot of damage but politicians dont care so long as their own pork gets taken care of.
