A hotdish is basically just a different term for casserole. Though, I guess I don't know how common casseroles are outside the midwest.

Being from Minnesota, I've never actaully had lutefisk, although I don't think I'd call that a common food here... I have been in the same room where it was prepared and I think that's enough for me.
