I notice most people seem to do that these days

Like would you consider someone who has the opposite stance from you on any of these morally bankrupt:

- role of government
- police
- education
- immigration
- abortion
- insert any big political topic here

Which ones do you still respect the opposite side / but just disagree?

That would be impossible because morality subjective anyway

Re: those topics, my view is essentially what creates disagreement is the need for change and how to change things, and whether things should change. People rarely disagree on goals or outcomes.

Nah

Politics is 90% emotion these days. I just think they're lacking growth in some way unless theyre spittin' facts. Then I listen and try to understand

Assuming we're talking strictly about my fellow everyday citizens. There's groups inside and outside america that are corrupt beyond understanding

Mostly no, but there are somethings where if you're on the other side, I think you're an asshole.

If you're trying to stop gay people from getting married or women from getting abortions then I don't see how you can't be a piece of shit on some level. Some subjects are just black and white, right and wrong.

Can you give an example or two of opposite views you respect when they're not assholes?

Not necessarily, but so often nowadays, the opposition is either willing to throw lower class people under the bus, or is outright bigoted. I would much prefer it if shit were to go to budgetary concerns over how to best serve the most people, and not "maybe these poor people don't need clean water"

- abortion
I don't think it is possible to take a middle ground on this issue without coming off like a massive hypocrite. You can't even logically make a legal compromise that would please "both sides". It truly is one of those black and white issues where you need to pick a side. Right and wrong might be perspectives, but someone needs to win. You either legalize abortion or you don't.

It depends, is it something like "I think we should spend tax dollars on this instead of that"? In that case no.

If it's something like "I think LGBTQ people are subhuman degenerates not deserving of the same rights as everyone else" then yeah.

I think late term should be illegal everywhere, which I think it is in most places. When it starts looking like a human, like mostly formed, I just gotta nope off that bus. I can't in good conscience say it's okay at that point. The earlier the better, imo.

Of course, exception to everything.

Mostly this, but I'll generally try to understand where a person is coming from even in issues that I see as black and white. That's not to say I'll change my mind but if I can understand an underlying theme (resentment towards illegal immigrants due to a person's own poor circumstances) I'd ask more about that.

One of my good friends was and still is deeply religious (Southern Baptist) and I've seen her come a long way in acceptance of homosexuality because I asked about her experiences that created the distrust and we talked about comparisons (ie. Not allowing people of other faiths to get married)

I think most people are pretty ignorant and/or just plain stupid and incredibly selfish. I dont think of myself as being morally right to these kinds of people, but just having morals in general lol
