I mean, I haven't kept up with the non-vaccine scientific news, but even if it had a 98~99% survival rate it's still absolutely ridiculously lethal for something as contagious as it is.

Try an article that isn't from that time period where the cases had risen but the deaths hadn't caught up yet. Deaths have always lagged a few weeks behind cases. Likewise, cases will start to drop a few weeks before deaths do, too.

I just think the fact that some people are straight up denying potential good news or hope about the virus (death toll falling, infections dropping, survival rate much higher than we initially thought, we are getting better at treating it (no more respirators blowing out lungs) like if you bring any of that up, someone immediately rebuttals with some nihilistic headline tag and gamefaqs mods are on you...doesn't that seem strange? Should we not be looking for hope and real answers?

I mean, the American government and news media, we know what they are like. Japan and China are over it, in countries far more dense. Are we really to believe it's because rural Americans don't wear masks in Walmart? Whats going on here...?

I watch a lot of Japanese streamers and the like, and from what's being said they're considering extending travel blocks past the 31st and still have very heavy regional lockdowns. So, dunno where that news is coming from but it seems to clash with reports of people actually living there.

It depends on where you are, but Japan never had the same kind of lockdowns we did. It was mostly travel restrictions which are being lifted. And just like in America, there were a lot of people defying stay at home orders and lots of sidewalk restaurants never closed. Japan's death rate and infection rates are much lower despite these factors and density of their population...

As of January 7th, they legitimately locked down Tokyo which meant the shutting down of restaurants, hotels and gathering places, and requests to stay at home and not gather. Not seeing how it's terribly different. But I mean, I just both watch and know people who live over there so I guess I'm ill informed.
