He told me he has schizophrenia. I've known him for almost a decade now and this never came up. So I told him he could apply to have his student loan forgiven since he has a disability, and he just said "oh, that doesn't apply to me"

I mean it could be true and maybe I'm being too suspicious, but idk

Schizophrenia in men usually happens younger, for women that age range you gave is more accurate. Not impossible he got it late, but I still have doubts

People don't tend to bullshit about that and he might be right that he doesn't get student loan support. Support for people with mental health issues is notoriously bad.

Getting disability forgiveness for school loans is only if youre rendered unable to work as Totally and Permanently Disabled, or TPD.

I know for a fact schizophrenics can get loan support, but apparently (just checked) it's only if you can't work and he does have a job.

Oh wait, never mind. for my province apparently the disability just has to be permanent, like I thought. the total disability thing is for federal level, not provincial.
