Red Mage (Multiple) - One of the most versatile and fun classes I've played in various games. Especially with their unique buff spells that usually define the role.

This is my choice as well.

Reasonably high attack power, upper-mid tier white and black magic, and even some spells all to themselves.

They'll never do any job the best, but overall they're the most versatile/useful imo.

Since the jobs can vary between games a good deal, Im gonna nominate based on just the jobs and characters that I like from the games, instead of Which are the strongest characters.

Monk: FF1 monks become murder machines, so theyre a ton of fun to use. In later games, we have Yang, Sabin, Tifa, Zell, Amarant, and Snow. Thats a hell of a lineup.

Black Mage: The classic design is a staple in FF games. So we have the FF1 classic look, Rydia, Palom, Vivi, and Lulu.

Dragoon: Yeah, theres Freya, but Im going this route solely because of Kain. While FF1 was technically my first FF, it was FF4 that hooked me, and Kains jump ability mesmerized me. Also, random note... I used a team of all dragoons to take down Goldor in FF3.

I graduated from the school of The Best Defence is to Kill the Enemy Before They Hit You. Ninjas generally being strong, fast, and hitting twice has been a reliable choice in most FFs.

Monks are great here and there, but they kan be insane in FFT. Such power and utility. Also obligatory mention of the monk who suplexed a moving train.

Not sure who notably rises above my other faves to pick as a third. Tryna avoid specials that were only good for one game.

Since the topic title asks for 'best' and not 'favorite' job class, I gotta give my nod to FFTA's Assassin. Apart from the most obvious benefit of having OHKO moves that actually work more often than not, their stat growth is monstrous to the point where they have no noteworthy weaknesses / deficiencies, and while they absolutely murder with katanas, they're no slouch with bows either (the latter being significant because bows are too often underpowered in this franchise). And unlike it's rival broken class (FFT's Arithmetician), the Assassin doesn't need to hand its skillset off to a stronger job class to be effective, as it has both the raw power and great abilities to stand head and shoulders above the rest on its own.

It should also be noted that there's an inherent flaw in multiple nominations in which all noms are given equal weight: if my absolute favorite is Moogle Gunner but I pick Black Mage as a runner-up, and the next person's favorite class is Monk and they too pick Black Mage as a runner-up, the runner-up now has more votes than the individual favorites.

Blue mage is by far my favorite. Gun mage is the same thing but if it's being counted separately would be another vote. Summoner is my third.

Shopkeeper - The "heroes" sell you stuff for dirt cheap so you can turn around and sell it to others for massive profit
Tour operator - "See where the chosen ones died to a slime dozens of times!"
Monster Rancher - Ever wonder why animals drop gil? Gastrointestinal leavings or in other words crystalized monster poop. Money doesn't need to grow on trees when your livestock poop diamonds. Besides, someone has to be hired to prevent ecosystem collapse after a hero party comes through.

Blue Mage -- You need something? Blue Mage probably has a spell for that. You don't need something? Blue Mage probably has a spell for that, too. They have only been weak in 8 and 10, where Blue Magic was tied to Limit Breaks (Degenerator is still cool). FF9's Quina is the penultimate Blue Mage, but they were strong in FF5 and 7 (Enemy Skill materia) as well. Good in 11 and TA/TA2 as well (damage dealer and good support subjob, respectively).

Chemist -- I don't think this job gets enough credit. They're pretty solid healers in FFT, but their real power comes from any game that lets them Mix. It's one of the most broken abilities in all of FF. You thought Mighty Guard was good? The best buffs come from Mix! Also some good damage options if you'd like.

White Mage -- Kind of goes without saying, but you almost always want one... unless perhaps you have a Red Mage (FF1/11), Chemist (FFT) or Scholar (FF11/14).

Blue mages would be a lot better if they weren't so damned annoying to develop.
Also there's usually that one missable ability, on that boss that essentially never uses the ability.

Ninja (Multiple) - Mostly for my love on Ninja in FFXI, was just such a cool class. Shadow tanking is something I haven't seen in any other game.

Could you explain what shadow tanking is? Sounds pretty sweet but I've never played FF11.
