I really liked the first, but I'm not so sure about the second one. My friend said its good, but the battle system seriously hampers the gameplay. Along with the fact the skill tree is broken. He said the story was good.

What's your opinion? And, should I go for it?

With the battle system there's literally one way and one way only to win, which involves a method I currently can't remember but involves momo, who is somehow like the strongest character in that game. Junior is also good.

And honestly? It's okay. All the faults I have with it are present in all 3 of the xenosaga games. And the good is that it involves junior/albedo backstory which I thought was really good since I actually like junior and albedo is low key one of the more underrated jrpg villains.

So yeah, I'd recommend playing just to experience what the xenosaga trilogy in its entirety has to offer, good and bad (mostly bad, I'd say 70-30)

Sidenote, when you reach a section of the game where you're controlling shion and she's by herself, it's a great opportunity to grind and level up since all the enemies are weak to her electricity and your party will match shion's level. You won't get another chance like that.

Thank you for posting all this and I will give it a go as I really liked Albedo and Junior. I also have an Action Replay incase I want to really break the game.

2 is a huge downgrade from 1 if you liked 1.

But if you wanna play 3 then play 2.

2 isn't actually that big of a downgrade from 1 imo, just that the balancing and pacing of the gameplay is completely off.

There are plenty of ways to remedy it, the easiest being grinding during the section where Shion is alone. That's the fastest grind, and other character's exp gain tries to normalize to the character with the highest level

I genuinely almost got stuck near the end of the game because my party could not beat a single random encounter on the way to the final boss. But oddly enough, it was enough to beat the final boss with some serious optimized play
