Regardless of whether the changes bother you or not, that most likely is going to be the case. I mean, unless we think some people buying DLC didn't lead to more DLC. Some people paying for microtransactions hasn't lead to more microtransactions. More digital game sales haven't lead to more games going digital. Etc etc.

the presence or absent of these butt shots is such a minor component of this game that you cant draw the same sort of conclusion. Developers arent going to look to this collections sales to help them decide how many butt-focused camera angles to include in their game.

Its not a slope toward more censorship, and frankly its not censorship at all. Its a developer deciding to adjust their cinematography completely of their own volition, which no one would have any kind of problem with if it wasnt specifically related to a butt.

The same butt is still present in the game. You can still look at the butt. If they actually wanted to censor the butt they could have adjusted her character model, but they didnt do that. They just changed some specific camera angles because they realized focusing on the butt in those specifics moments didnt serve the scene well.

The game isn't obligated to do so at all. This is really just a question of do you view this as actual censorship or not, and if it's enough to affect your purchase of it.

Personally, I have on idea if I'd consider this censorship as I haven't particularly looked into it, and honestly I wasn't going to buy it anyway as I've never played any of these games. I understand the arguments for and against it though.

Yea I just realized I badly worded what I said there. I should have added "If this is indeed censorship" to the starting sentence. I added it to the second thing I said but didn't think about going back and adding it to the first.

It's literally a camera angle.

If a director changes his direction in a film in an extended version, or director's cut. Is that censorship?

If a comic book artist or mangaka, changes his paneling is that censorship?

If a character in film/video games/comics/manga has a different set of clothes on in the next volume, or movie, or w.e. Is that censorship?

No. No. No.

Stop advocating this as censorship. It's damaging to actual censorship.

But now the market is more diversified, so we don't have to compromise the integrity of our product just to cater entirely to their creepy needs anymore."

ETA: Also, I should point out that I'm not referring to ALL gamers in the above example. Just the kinds of highly vocal whiners that would complain about something as trivial as a butt shot being removed from a remake of a game.

I feel if the people who were angry just said I really like looking at mirandas butt, and Im sad/disappointed Im not going have these shots of her butt in the game anymore itd at least be more honest.

I have no problem with it. Heck, I enjoy looking at Miranda's ass as much as anyone. But if content creators choose to alter their own creations because they feel it ultimately doesn't suit their intent, that's not censorship and shouldn't be whined about (or even a news story in general).

Basically, my point is that the argument of "SJWs ruin everything" assumes that it wasn't the original intent to have a serious scene WITHOUT an unnecessary ass shot. It's equally possible that the creators felt compelled to insert unnecessary fanservice into the game to appease a group of people who aren't the sole market for video games anymore.

That being said, if Spike Chunsoft re-released DRs 1-3 and removed the fanservice scenes entirely (all of which are completely optional, and in some cases complete easter eggs by the way), it wouldn't really bother me since it would be the choice of the creators to remove them as part of their artistic vision.

I don't really mind this particular case itself. I am not high on Mass Effect to begin with and while Miranda ass is nice I can live well without it. I liked her and romanced her despite her ugly face, but she was better than any other option.
And like Santa said, butt shots have no place in a serious scene, I agree.

But the thing is, I disagree entirely with the idea that "fan service is bad" and this is the main problem I take from this. Sex sells, Always did always will. It's natural and there is nothing wrong with that.
A lot of games have fan service. Some of them are great games that most of us likes and enjoyed the fan service. Like the Danganronpa example I gave. Mikan falling down in a "awkward" pose and covering her panties. Shower scenes. Swimsuits etc. Are they really bad in your opinion?
I don't see anything wrong with them. They are enjoyable. A little bit embarassing, yes, but not everything needs to be serious

The Mikan scenes in Danganronpa are some of the dumbest fanservice I've personally witnessed in a video game and it's wild to me that's the example you went with.

And I have a decent tolerance for fanservice, I'll laugh off Quiet in MGSV because the only thing about that game funnier than a woman who wears a bikini all the time because she has to breathe through her skin were Kojima's attempts to pass off his horniness as deep, but Mikan isn't even a funny joke.

I think this is giving it too much credit. It messes around with some tropes and plays other completely straight, and the fanservice is something that falls firmly into the second category.

Out of curiosity. How long does a change like this add to development time? I understand this is a remaster and not like a ground up remake so they might be able to do stuff like this without much issue but idk, in todays gaming climate can a company really be doing this and risk having some core gameplay feature not work properly?

If they're cutscenes that are using the in-game graphics, moving the camera would take pretty much no time.

And it's not like it's something they were suddenly pressured to do out of nowhere at the last second. It's something they decided to do themselves during the development of the remaster that we wouldn't even know about if they hadn't said anything.

I meant during development. This didnt come randomly because of specific outrage about it, is the point. They planned to do it, they didnt tack it on because the internet suddenly went Hey, no asses!
