Grandia sequels were a mistake

If you haven't played through the hardtype grandia mod, highly recommended. Isn't just a difficulty increase. It changes the battle flow and all the bosses to where Positioning is actually important. Made it more strategic without becoming frustrating (outside of the secret punch boss in the temple).

Yes. I'd rank the biggest entries like:

G2 >>>>> GXtreme > G1 >>>>>> G3

I'd disagree with Shotgunnova, and instead rank them G3 > GXtreme > G2 > G1 - but with the footnote that even G1 is a fucking incredible game.

So hell yes, G2 is great.

i loved Grandia 1, then excitedly bought Grandia 2 right when it released on PC/steam but it had some issues and my controller wouldn't work properly

i have to play it eventually

If you enjoy JRPGs of the era you'll probably like Grandia 2. I like both it and 1 quite a bit.

1, 2 and Xtreme were good, 3 while a fun battle system and nice graphics and enviroments, everything else was terrible to story, music and being short.

It was the first rpg I played before ff7 and I gotta say it was pretty bad man.

If it's the one where you start out in town then you're in a forest.

I like it better than the first. The story isn't as good, but the gameplay is much better in my opinion.

So far Steam reviews say it has a pretty fantastic story, and the gameplay expands upon the first game. So I'm kind of locked in.

Grandia 3 was fucking terrible. One of the worst games I have ever played.

Everyone saying it's better than 1 is making me extremely hyped up to play it. I'm playing 1 now and it is fantastic.

My main disagreements with 1 are the difficulty level (its super easy, except in the bonus dungeons), and the Secret of Mana style weapon and magic systems. 2 isn't exactly difficult, but fighting is more robust and substantial, and the system of allocating magic and skill points is a lot smoother than the first game's systems.

If Grandia 1 had Grandia 2's gameplay, it would undoubtedly be the superior game by any measure.

Yeah, I've done like zero grinding and tried to avoid a decent amount of fights and there were really only two or three difficult bosses. The final Baal fight was a bitch though.

The story wasn't great by any means but I wouldn't call it terrible, and it felt okay length wise, though could've done with a bit more in the way of sidequests (and in particular optional bosses for said sidequests). I thought the music was good (if not quite as good as the previous games), though.

That explains things. I made a concentrated effort to appease my semi-completionist side, grinding up everyone's magic and skills as the game went by, so pretty much everything was easy for me, except for the side quests.

I normally do that in my 2nd playthroughs. Plus nobody wants to watch me grind and collect 100% of everything for 80+ hours :P . I'm definitely going to do it when I replay it.

But yeah, even without grinding it was incredibly easy.
