Gollum is the hero, though he wasn't really trying to be. He made their entire passage through Mordor possible and prevented Frodo from invisibly walking off and keeping the ring forever.

You're making me want to go back and read it. I remember reading the last few pages of Two Towers in my library when I was younger and how different it was to the movie but I remembered it involving Sam. I wish I had the ability to sit and read a book longer than I can ;_; stupid ADD.
