An American woman named Jessica Rose has sparked heated debate on Twitter after posting a list of the strangest things she's noticed about living in the UK since moving here 10 years ago.

"Please why beans on toast there are so many other lazy foods that are actually good why is this a thing?"
Nothing wrong with baked beans on toast with cheese. It's tasty.

"People here put fish fingers (yes they mean fish sticks but Im fine w the name part) in sandwiches which is just...why."
Again this is tasty. Add some Ketchup on it with butter.

"British beaches are often just banks of sharp stones by the water and people here excitedly go to them on purpose, When you get there you can buy disappointing candy sticks called rock and seagulls will fight you."
Plenty of soft sand on our beaches. Plus Donkeys and the Sea. Rock is nice too. I will agree the seagulls hate you but I've never had any major issue.

"If there is a mistake at a coffee shop or restaurant British people will complain to everyone but the people who could fix the issue and if asked by those people will report that everything is fine."
Not sure where she's got this from. People love to complain over here!

"On getting off a bus saying thank you to the driver is optional until the person leaving in front of you says thank you. Then you are legally required to say it. So is everyone behind you."
Not really. I say thanks most the time just because it's nice to do so. The drivers thank me too. Apparently having manners is strange.

"If you mention a weird dream or nightmare, Britishes will ask if you ate a lot of cheese before going to bed."
I hear cheese gives you nightmares.

"People get full-on arguing mad about the order you assemble breakfast items (when you put milk in when making tea or what you put first on a scone) and it does not matter at all."
Blasphemy! How one takes their tea is important.

"I think American tipping culture is a lot for British folks to cope with and tipping being much simpler in the UK is also a nice change."
It certainly isn't as much of a thing over here.

None of that seems all that strange to me. As an American I can see why others from the U.S. might find baked beans on toast strange. But I grew up poor and that's a filling struggle meal! I didn't know it was a British delicacy. Fish sticks in a sandwich doesn't seem too far fetched for Americans to do. We love putting fried things between bread. Brits just love their fried fish more though, so you guys thought to shove it between bread first.

I've heard the cheese thing before too in the States. Mostly from older people.

British tea culture is a joke. You people don't know how to properly cultivate, brew, or serve it. I'll take a Chinese gung fu ceremony with an aged pu-errh over a London Fog or whatever sugar milk mixture you've ruined your tea with any day.

beans on toast is weird, same with calling them fish fingers.

but when people call fries chips, chips crisps, a trunk a boot, the 2nd floor the 1st floor, etc. it's not surprising.

We don't have the same destination of the words terrible. Fish & Chips, a full English, Yorkshire Puddings, beans on toast are all good. Although I will say we have plenty of choices when it comes to other cuisine.

Every culture has stuff that is weird compared to others. When I was in Italy I thought it was weird that cafe's (like good expensive ones) pre-made their sandwiches and left them out on display to order. Like, really? Even Italian cafe's here have the decency to make their sandwiches to order. Is it really that hard to spend and extra minute waiting for someone to put stuff on bread?

We have beans. But we eat them as a side dish with something, like hot dogs for instance. We dont slather them on bread like a godless heathen.

Also our baked beans are a bit sweeter than yours.

I made some beans on toast. A little nicer than just beans and cheese, had parsley and tomatoes and a medium boiled egg too.

But yeah. Baked beans and toast, not a bad concept.

This is highly regional. In Texas, everyone said thank you to the bus driver. Here in SF, some people do but it's much less frequent.
