Always look at the director first
Early Tomino makes you think and probably feel bad (0079, Ideon, Dunbine) Later Tomino makes you feel better but maybe a tad bittersweet (Turn A, Gainer, G-Rec) Imagawa is kind of moody, yet always makes a scene feel "real" (Giant Robo, G Gundam) Takahashi has cool down to a science, great useage of music and action (Votoms, Layzner, Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto) Oshii does good work with cops and the future (Red Specs, Patlabor) ...
