There's like 30 employees in a walmart at a time, and only one cashier. I guess it makes sense with this new generation knowing how to use the machines, but in that case they should get rid of some of these cashier aisles for more self-checkout machines.

I like self-checkout but its kinda flawed if you have a cart full of stuff because theres only 4 bagging stations max, the machine gets unhappy and needs override. I still use self checkout because I hate making small talk with the cashier and shitty bagging by the courtesy clerk.

Yep definitely will be when $15 minimum wage occurs. One of the major causes of retail losses is when a cashier miscounts the customer's change or if they decide to rob their tills. The self checkouts prevent that.

Sam's Club does this. Probably my favorite thing ever. Of course you still have to get checked by the receipt checkers or whatever they're called.

They are doing it at meijers currently. It needs some more work and security and I dont think you will ever see it in more high risk areas.

It will happen regardless of what the minimum wage is.

The question is: what will we do when there are half as many jobs as there are now due to automation?
Because the capitalist class' answer seems to be neo-feudalism.

Amazon go. It is pretty neat if you have one in your city. No one checks your receipt either.

Going to the cashier with a full cart is much faster...
