Serious question to americans : is age gap puritanism that common in your country or is it a small portion of the wokesplaining population? Because I have seen a lot of questionable takes on this lately and almost everytime I click on the profiles of those stupid takes, they are americans.

Not really. I could see it happening. Hell, when I was 26 I was willing to date an 18 year old. Course, they'd have to have proof of being an 18 year old. I didn't want to get arrested. But I'd still be drawn to someone closer to my age. Now at 35, the youngest I'd date is probably 23, 24. Earlier than that it gets a bit too creepy for my taste.

My ex-roommate was 27 dating a 19 year old. They dated for 3 full years and were very happy together. She had to leave for college, and him having a full time job meant they had to break up. Sad times.

She is projecting female personal tastes onto men when it's been statistically beat into the ground both sexes have drastically different priorities.

Women on average do not like younger men while men do. Men are on average ok with taking care of women with lower socio-economic status than them, while women statistically hate it.

She's acting like she is a "grown ass woman" at 24, but the reality is, when she is 30, she will be condescending to 24 yr old women, acting like how much more mature she is, and will be guilt tripping 30 yr old men for dating 24 yr olds.

I literally didn't need to hear anything she had to say when I heard she was 24. Of course you hate 24 yr old men dating 18 yr old women and you're trying to gas light the men and condescend to the younger women. Older women will do the same the second you date an older man. It's the oldest tactic in the book. Misogyny is totally ok when it's coming from an older woman to a younger woman in the form of gas lighting older men, but it all comes down to older women acting like younger women aren't "mature" enough for older men when that's for the man and the woman to decide...not you.

At the end of the day this all a bunch of ageist bullshit so women can keep men in line and force them to date who they want to date because they struggle to compete with younger women's looks.

The only time where it becomes questionable is if the older party is providing to the younger party something they wouldn't be able to get otherwise. In this case the 24 year old providing legally purchased alcohol/Marijuana to supply for their younger, 18 year old partner, especially if this is something that happens very early in the relationship without a significant amount of trust created between the two. Final answer.

So yes, if you're a 24 year old hanging out in a place with a bunch of 18 year olds frequenting the area, and you are specifically looking for an 18 year old, its creepy and questionable.

If you're 24 and happen to run into someone who's 18, but you have chemistry anyways and the premise of your sexual relationship doesn't involve alcohol/Marijuana, its 100% okay but you're still going to receive a ton of dirty looks.

Many young people are more naive and less established than a slightly older person. No matter what, when you head into this kind of relationships you're assuming a position of power over a bright eyed often naive younger person who just has less world experience. This is perfectly fine and normal, but its your ability to recognize this position that is important.

If you're an established, successful person at 24 and just looking for an attractive, younger partner who is less likely to come with drama, that is perfectly normal and valid to desire and as noted by a previous user, people WILL often gatekeep age-based dating in this fact.

Life happens between 18 and 24. You go into debt, most people are unsuccessful, and people just have less time to maintain their appearance. You have emotional baggage and a lot of it. People who have success (however small or large it may be) aren't bad people for pursuing people who just have less drama (18-22). Sometimes people can love you if you're the same age but not want to bail you of your financial debt, be your emotional punching bag, or take care of a kid that isn't theres (something that's becoming REALLY hard to find with women over 23)

Theres a lot of single mothers out there. Theres less single dads (with primary custody). It sucks a lot, but people don't want to take care of your kids. So they look for younger candidate. Sorry

You're talking about a probable high school senior (or who just recently graduated from high school) dating someone that graduated from college two years ago. For as young as both parties are, a six year age gap is pretty massive there.

Is it creepy for people who are literally in the same class at university to be dating? There are tons of 18 year olds in classes with people 24+, the latter of whom aren't always at the very end of their education either and may well be in their first year as well

18 is the 2nd year of college where I am.

It is very common to start college or university at 17 in my province.

Also why do americans forget that they are pretty much the only country that puts the age required to buy alcohol and go to bars at 21?

I don't think it's morally sound for that combination of age gap and age difference to date, so yes I'd say unethical. There's no good reason why "wanting to date younger" shouldn't mean 2-3 years instead of six. If both parties were six years older it wouldn't be an issue because the younger party has far more life experience now.
