How does sekiro compare? What would you most closely relate it to? I saw it's under $40 on psn and am considering it.
No spoilers please

It definitely shares the same spirit of gameplay, but instead of being focused on roll dodging everything you're forced to engage in swordplay with lots of blocks and deflections / parries. the first 10-15h i had the game, i was trying to roll through everything and that worked at first but quickly fell apart.

it's a wonderful game. definitely recommended.

It's really good, but I found it assbreakingly difficult in a way other Souls games aren't.

That aside, the stealth is a little undercooked, but it's not absolutely necessary and verticality often makes it moot. Everything else is top-notch. Worth playing if you can get past your Souls muscle memory.

I played DS3 and Sekiro.

Sekiro has harder bosses. Sekiro bosses are closer to Nameless King in terms of difficulty.
There is less build variety. You have talent trees, but it's not the same as playing entirely different classes.

Overall, Sekiro is a fantastic game. It's among the top 5 games of last gen imo.

Sekiro was needlessly difficult and soulless.

Ghost of Tsushima was better in literally every way.

Sekiro is far and away the best thing FromSoft has ever put out, and it's better than 99% of games that exist. It's beautiful, well acted, every fight is a dance. I can't think of anything to compare it to, maybe tangentially Metal Gear Rising but Sekiro really just feels like its own thing

Think of parrying and countering as functions in a rhythm game

One's a Souls game, the other is an Ubi-style open world in Japan, although better than anything Ubi's crapped out in a decade.

definitely not better in the combat. GoT has more to do but so many things are copypasta open world filler tasks that are just not interesting.

The combat in Sekiro is a joke. You just dodge overly critical hits from bullet sponges until you whittle them down. It's peak "I only play Japanese games that are too hard for no reason."

FYI TC the above complaint is made-up

As is the below complaint. Dying repeatedly doesn't set the story back. It can result in NPC questlines halting, but that is easily and quickly remedied and you don't lose any progress.

I did. I returned it the next day after about 7 hours of gameplay. Dying over and over again only to be set back further in the story isn't fun for most gamers.

Nah. It's my genuine complaint from my anecdotal experience. But do pretend that I'm just a hater who hasn't played the game.

Alright, I'm going to get it. I'm finishing up ds2 right now because I never finished it before. I think I'm close. Then it will be sekiro after that

I wouldn't can enemies bullet sponges. I think the game does a great job of putting your character in harder scenarios as the game progresses to increase difficulty as well.

If you're looking for bullet-sponge enemies, I might direct you to God of War

one of my favorite games ever. hard as balls but it was always fun to play. the gameplay is so smooth and pretty that I honestly find it hard to believe its a from software game.

it is very unforgiving, however, and if you try using ds or bloodborne tactics and don't buy into deflecting, you'll hate the game.

Sekiro is Tenchu lite with dark souls gameplay, but more of a focus on the rhythm of battle. I really wish From would just do another actual Tenchu.

A big part of the reason is because you think:

That's completely wrong. Maybe learn to play next time.

The only thing that has me worried is that I never got good with the parry in ds games. Is it exactly like the reflection/reflections is sekiro

I beat the final (credits) boss on DS3 in one try. Sekiro's final boss took me probably around 2-3 hours of tries spread out over a week

it's easier and more fluid in sekiro. I was never good at parrying in souls games either but it's better in sekiro

I played through Bloodborne twice without using the parry system and still got use to Sekiro lol. It's good
