definitely in the category of "if you like any of the Zero Escape or Danganronpa type games, you'll like this" though AI is actually a lot more interactable and less visual novely than those were

really interesting story and mostly interesting characters, definitely worth checking out

I liked the characters and story but I wasn't that much of a fan of what it replaced the escape rooms with. A lot of the funny scenes are gated behind wrong answers so the game punishes you (sometimes severely) for trying to see them.

Disappointing puzzle elements (aka a very bad trial and error) and mediocre characters as a whole (luckily most of the main cast is good) but when it all comes together, it has an interesting story even if you have to wade through some abysmal stuff.

On par with Zero Escape story/characters wise, but definitely not gameplay wise.

If you enjoy zero escape you will enjoy this. It can be rough around the edges but all in all it's definitely worth playing, especially at 60% off

Currently playing but not very far. They seem to introduce some new concepts after the tutorial without much explanation but it's all pretty intuitive stuff. I'm liking it so far!

I haven't played anything by these devs but got both 999 and AI over the holidays (as well as Last Window, the DS really was the console for VNs lol), excited to see how they measure up to the hype! 999 was a board rec and I thoroughly enjoyed Ghost Trick (and obv Ace Attorney) so fingers crossed.

I loved the Zero Escape series but there's something about this game that I'm just not interested in. Maybe I'll eventually play it.

To be fair, the DS version of 999 kinda sucks compared to the other versions.

Not helpful. The weird awkward 3-D graphics, the voice acting, and the writing in VLR were all terrible at the onset. Considering how many people like the game, I assume those either get better or grow on you, but I simply wasn't interested. I got stuck on the second puzzle and decided to check out.

VLR has great voice acting. Chiaki Omigawa is excellent as Phi.

There are 1 or two misses in VLR VA work, but it's mostly very good. I am not a huge fan of the move to 3D but it grows on you, and makes some scenes better.

999 is a tighter game, but so much of VLR is so much more interesting. It is very much the middle game of a series, though.

Played 2.3 hours so far. Not really impressed? It's less immediately engaging than I expected.

There's some decent stuff all around, but I would say the really good stuff is pretty backloaded. I think it's why a lot of people bet turned off by it.

I finished the part where you go into the little girl's dream. I think there was a second way to finish it, but whichever way I did got me to discover Iris' dead body in the dream, so I went to go talk to Iris. I stopped after that.

it's not going to improve

I thought it was decent. The characters were pretty meh (Aiba is the only one I really liked) but the mystery was intriguing enough to keep me coming back.

I really liked one of the early somniums (it's Iris' first somnium, super creepy, fantastic atmosphere) and was a tad disappointed that none of the others had the same atmosphere.
