Makes sense. It's the same principle as regular buoyancy: fluids resist displacement and will exert a force as they attempt to return to their undisplaced state. The only change here is that it's the air pressure under the liquid barrier that's both causing the boat to "sink" and the fluid to push back, rather than gravity.

Anti-buoyancy is when you're a kid, and you wash baby ducks with dish soap because you don't know any better, and it cuts through the grease on their feathers that makes them buoyant and they immediately sink like a stone into the water.
