Which is why the us has the lowest crime rate.

Oh...well who cares if statistics don't actually support your belief.

Sure let's spend money to hire more incompetent corrupt future murderers instead of spending it to stop that behavior. What a wonderful idea

was I born a cop? Last check I checked I was born in the ghetto of Chicago with parents that were immigrants. Judging from your pictures you posted here, its funny you telling a brown person theyre privileged lol. I didnt become a cop until I was 25. I busted my ass off to get where I am today. So out of touch you are

Dont take it so personally. Cops by definition have privileges not granted to the rest of society qualified immunity and such.

Strawman.

I just wish we had, among other things:
- Less militarization of police (for civilian safety plus opening up the budget for the below)
- More money into education and community outreach
- Using trained social workers for welfare checks
- Better police training and cutting white supremacists out of their ranks (this is the one I unfortunately tend to agree you can't just easily legislate away through small steps which is why a lot of people want to tear down and rebuild it completely)

All very good goals. But, from what I've seen, the cities actually taking steps in this direction can be counted on one hand. Reform is being strangled by police unions and politicians.

The problem is the age old "who polices the police" question, and that's why so many people feel like a complete upheaval is necessary. Even if we take little steps it's generally reliant on people acting in good faith. But we've seen like how useless body cams are. Cops can just turn them off, and if they don't do that, they can capture themselves killing someone on camera and their superiors will just ignore that and make up lies to justify it.

I know carjackings and just stealing cars has been huge in the twin cities lately.

...Also...
Stay safe, @Pus_N_Pecans
Ive put in at least a dozen calls living where I do right now for various things (mostly domestic abuse in the presence of a child) but they only show up at all about a quarter of the time.

But at least you have been okay.
Not really sure how far out you are from downtown.

Yeah, I haven't really had any run ins with anyone thankfully. Still, the plan is to move to a new place with my bf once my lease is up. It'll probably be somewhere near downtown, but honestly downtown seems safer than where I'm at now a lot of the time. There's more crazy people on the streets, but at least I'm not surrounded by them in my building.

To Pecans point, stuff like domestic violence is bound to rise when peoples standards of living decrease. This obviously isnt to say its justified at all, but that improving material conditions would do far more to alleviate this horrible crime than levying state-sanctioned violence on people after the fact.

Ya, if you can afford it then I would say go for it.
Honestly, St. Paul is a freaking gorgeous little city.
I love all the single-family homes and there is some solid architecture going on.

((As I alluded to elsewhere I've been watching that Live On Patrol feed and noticed how nice St. Paul is))

Yeah my brother and his wife had a nice place in St. Paul that I used to visit as a kid. Also went up there a few years ago to see my friends band play. Went to a nice house afterwards for the after-party.

they should allow people to opt out of receiving police support. if they disagree with the police force they can solve crimes (murders, muggings, etc) by talking it over and offering counselling to the people that offended.
the rest of the city will then find they get a much quicker police response

How about opting out of being murdered by cops who get suspended with pay before getting their jobs back?

Can we do that?
