In what ways???

I think the best example is to compare it to Mario Odyssey or Mario Galaxy, which have clear narratives and artistic direction.

3D World was kind of like a 2d Mario game but in 3d. I appreciate what they tried to do but it wound up making the game feel less than the big, major 3D Mario games, Sunshine included.

This isn't a "generic" complaint but powerups are too common that the stakes are kinda lower.

I mean it might feel that way but in just square feet there's way more content in 3DW than any other 3D Mario except for maybe Odyssey.

I wonder if my depth perception is starting to deteriorate. This is the type of game I grew up on, something I consider myself pretty good at. I still got it, but I'm missing jumps and running right past things I didn't used to before.

I dont think your physical depth perception matters because its really a 2d image. It would only matter with a proper vr headset.

Fair enough, that's true. and I'll admit that preferring a huge open world like Mario 64 and Odyssey is pure personal preference.
