England and France have been beating the shit out of each other for centuries before the US existed.

I remember watching a news program once where some British Brexit diplomat guy and some French diplomat guy had a big argument and stormed out of the meeting.

And the anchor said something like "Relations between France and the UK have hit their lowest point in history!"

I was in Plymouth when they erected that giant little girl statue.

Plymouth is like the Detroit of the UK, there's no jobs or industry. Just 300,000 +people full of unemployment, dilapidated buildings, empty shopping arcades and rampant drug use/crime . Homeless everywhere

And the UKs response was to spend a fortune building a giant statue of a little girl in the middle of the sidewalk

It was honestly pretty sickening

Messenger cost a tiny fraction of a Plymouth wide regeneration plan focussing on the Theatre Royal. 7.5m total for regenerating and bringing jobs and tourism, 450k for the statue which is a major.tourist draw as it's one of the biggest bronze cast statues in the UK.

It's rather spectacular in person. You can walk through the legs like an arch it's that big.
It's in a pose of an actress about to rush into the stage, that's why it's outside the theatre.

That's the only "little girl" statue I can think of in plymouth anyway, the huge bronze woman. Maybe there's another?

It's shit. It's about as spectacular as the dog turds and dirty needles on the floor around it.

I'm sure "You can pass full its legs! It's the largest bronze cast little girl i nthe world!" is great comfort to the homeless and crack addicts that the government ignored while putting it up

Imagine how much good "Just 450K" would have done for the people who actually needed it rather than making your drive look nicer while you pass through Plymouth.

So that's "yes it's only art if I think it's good". I'll have to remind the curators the next time I go to the local art museum that some of what they're showing is false advertising.
