Are humans really built to stay in love with one partner their whole life? I thought the animal kingdoms design was to produce as many offspring as possible.

*shrug* idk what church has to do with it. if i was going steady there's no way i could be polyamorous. i've never seen it work either, but im not about to knock it. just not a thing i'll be doing

I think its a concept that works for some and not for others. Neither option should be shamed by the other.

Not really, since as far as "design" goes, a single man can cause countless pregnancies while a woman can only have a single pregnancy at a time. If anything, that encourages the man to go sow his seed with as little care as possible, while the woman is expected to choose the best possible mate.

There are R species and K species. One produces many children with a high mortality rate, letting the statistics work itself out. The only has few children and puts a lot of time into protecting them until adulthood.

It's very complicated to try to classify human beings into larger classes of behavior. Especially because we have the means to alter our own environment, food source, etc etc. Humans are a lot more fluid thanks to our intelligence. To say we are monogamous or polygamist is probably prescriptive.

Probably came about more from the shift to agrarian lifestyles, than from religion.

Men are also programmed for jealousy and violence.

Ive never seen this work for someone as a lifelong practice. At one point youre going to be the last one while the rest picked a companion and then you are just getting the bottom of the barrel.

I like having a permanent companion. Its not insecurity, Im not the jealous type, but I only have the space to give this kind of care to one person and I desire it in return. Also while there is the it takes a village the bond between mother and child is a powerful thing, and is a hardwired biological fact.

A person who cares about you more than themselves and who you can say the same about. True intimacy isnt something easily managed.

I think theres some sort of basis that modern organized religion used and that was probably the concept of the pure virgin (lol). I think at some kind of level the idea of having sex with a Demi-god or conduit/speaker of those Gods and being blessed by them pre-date the whole sex before sacred marriage is a thing and is what initially put sex on a pedestal

By the time something like the Bible was already written people were probably indulging in other sex related rituals - this text seems to be the one that so happened to compile a point about the idea of sex

Its like why did people go ahead and roll with that idea? And then carry on with it years later after the initial reception of that info (sex = bad)?

who knows, I wouldnt say monogamy is bad

I like being exclusive to someone and just enjoy honest company without having to think about texting or communicating 0s and 1s and swiping left and all that

It is not. Some people want to be monogamous, some people do not. I believe it may depend primarily on if you want children or if you have some big goal in life and want to work towards it with a dedicated partner.

This is the type of wisdom people obtain with age/time/experience, hopefully. But you're 100% right.
