It's interesting the black people that get put on a pedestal by people like TC. Candace Owens, Thomas Sewell, this guy. It's the ones that parrot back rhetoric that would be clearly identified as racist if it came out of a white person's mouth. They provide a useful cover. And that's why the far more plentiful voices of black activists are ignored in order to elevate these people.

Additionally, I'm pretty sure it was centuries of chattel slavery and racial apartheid enforced through violence and law that "taught separation", not people asking for some tiny fraction of what they and their ancestors had stolen from them.

Fuck him, reparations SHOULD be given to African-Americans and it'd be one thing that would make us more equal.
Ok, so in your opinion, how do you go about deciding who gets what and who gives it?

My only fear about reparations is you know all the white racists are going to be annoying as fuck about it. If the subject of racism comes up in any way, they'll say, "I don't want to hear it, we gave you your reparations, what more do you want?" They'll think because reparations happened, racism is over and the United States is done making up for slavery.

Yeah, an actual robust reparations program would make 1/3rd of the country go absolutely insane. We almost had a fascist coup last month and reparations weren't even on the table at the time, all of American history tells us the backlash would be something we can't even fathom.

You could cover a lot of what reparations is meant to do by just embracing socialism.

Then you concentrate reparations beyond that even better.

A lot of the things done to blacks (and indigenous for that matter) arent really solved by simple cash payments. Gotta break down systemic barriers and complexes.

alright should we talk again in 5 years or 10 years or 25 years?

It's not that easy. These people have their hands on the levers of power, have a whole media sphere, etc. Huge parts of our current political discourse is related to these people freaking out after civil rights bills of the 1960s. Then again after a black President was elected. They can do huge amounts of damage with their temper tantrums.

If the issue is that slavery has caused a wealth and opportunity gap through the generations, then the money for reparations would be spent far better investing it into local communities than putting it into peoples' hands.

Generally speaking, money is better given out directly to the people. Giving it to community leaders will likely lead to more corruption than direct payments and the money will be less helpful to everyday people.

Yes, because people know how to spend it best on themselves.

However, it probably would not go a long way to breaking down systemic barriers if given directly to people. If you give $5,000 to 10 people that's great. but if you give $50,000 to a community outreach and education program, it could go longer towards slowly breaking down those systemic barriers.

Black people tried building wealth and opportunities throughout the years, this is what happened:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenwood_District,_Tulsa

150 years is 5 generations. There are people living today who had relative who were slaves. But it's not like racism against Black people ended 150 years ago. Strom Thurmond died in 2003. Anyone over 60 likely remembers race riots in America. People in their 70's were fighting FOR segregation. Opportunities today still aren't equal, let alone generations of stolen wealth and access to opportunities that have kept entire communities back.
