I was planning to wait until I was at this job for about 5 years, but I just started looking at prices of houses in the area and they're way lower than I thought they would be.

Kinda nervous because I've never owned a home before, but I think the best year of two would be a good time to buy.

I just refinanced mine. Interest rates are really low right now, why not take advantage?

I think I'm gonna do it. I've got an appointment to look at a home this Saturday. I'm excited.

I'm kinda tired of living in apartments.

What kind of housing and area you gonna be looking at?

Getting a house scares me. Just the way it feels so permanent. Like, I can't just pack up and dip.. not that that should even be a worry.

Somewhere in San Antonio. I haven't picked a specific area yet.

And that was my exact worry with getting a house, too. I've worked at 14 different companies, but this one is the one I think I want to stay at for the rest of my career. I was planning to try to wait until I'm at this job for 5 years to do this, but I just don't feel like waiting that long any more.

My investments in the last 12 months have done really well so I already have enough for the down payment.

I just bought a house as well, it was a very stressful experience. The housing market here is crazy competitive. Though I would imagine Texas is a lot easier.

We had to offer more than 10% over the asking price and waive all contingencies to be competitive. And we had a 25% down payment. Still took us months to get something, houses would be gone within days of being listed.

This. I also like to do projects and can't really do that with apartments/rental, on top of usually not having very good outdoor privacy.

I think about $300k or so is in the high end of what I'm looking for. I'm finding options for much cheaper than that, too.

I just got pre-approved for the max amount that I'm looking to pay for a house... And I really based that amount on the very first house I saw that I liked. Most houses that fit the specs I want are way under that, so this is getting kind of exciting. Gonna be looking at houses this saturday.

Congrats, pre-approved is useful as you know what you're able to look at and work with right away. Best wishes on your search

Hope it goes well for you. I got lucky buying my place in Phoenix back in 2018 and only had to spend one day looking at places before I was putting in the offer on it(but having spent 4 years as a cable tech, I knew the city and the various neighborhoods pretty well and what to look for).

Still love my place and consider it the best financial decision I've made in my life.

where is this?

I'm in Seattle and coming to a collision with the existential dread I see of the prices escalating in the area. I will have to make significant changes in my life to buy a house here in my dream city.

I'm told it's a seller's market, so I'm sure I'll have a stressful time finding what I want. I just hope this works out well whether I actually decide to buy right now or not.

Boston suburbs. We were basically looking 0-10 miles out from the city in every direction.

The guy across the street from me is mad no one wants to buy his house for 500,000

It's a 2 bedroom, one story, 1300 sq ft house with no renovation. It looks like it hasn't been touched since the 70s.

Sad thing, some rich asshole will eventually buy it and just sit on it so they can sell it for 750k

Homes aren't about communities or places to live anymore, it's just another property to dump your money into to make more. Sad!

congrats and good luck!

you're right that it's a seller's market right now. friends of mine bought their 2nd home just over a year ago and they were telling me how a place would go on the market in the morning and have an offer by evening.

something to make sure of is that you leave a good chunk of cash around for unexpected / emergency repairs. in theory your inspection should catch anything. in theory.
