When I was there, they had begun playing nature sounds and soft symphony music in the subway stations fairly recently. I asked someone on the itinerary, and it's literally because so many people jump onto the tracks to kill themselves, and it's to try and get them into a better mindset.

We need that in every nation tbh Yeah, despite the tropes, it should be pointed out that Japan's suicide rate isn't exactly abnormal. By Wikipedia's list it's "only" 30th in the world.
