Heyo, lets congeal... umm... collate? COMBO all ma topics together

While I'm looking forward to a great photography season in a few days (hopefully not weeks) I'm still playing Civ6... I don't even like it that much, but it has grown like a tumor on my gamebrain; I need them achievements

...

That aside, cool stuff on the Steamy store:

First off - OldSchool Runescape! Fun fact - OG Steam from before the Orange Box, even exluding the OS requirements, required more power than OG Runescape, which could run fine on any 386 computer. That means had Runescape came out in 1993 it might have killed all other gaming; but it didn't... so we played Bolo in the Mac lab instead.

Persona 5 Strikers is out, which is NOT a Soccer game unfortunately. What is a Soccer game is the Captain Tsubasa reboot which I was looking forward to for a while, but THEY FUCKED IT UP with microtransations to multiplayer.

For you oldschool PC gamers... there's Yet Another Spiderweb Remake... Geneforge 1 has been up-updated again. I consider it a must-play... if you have the lens of the era it came out in https://store.steampowered.com/app/1424710/Geneforge_1__Mutagen/

Also: Upcoming - SOMEONE bought up a bunch of Data East licenses... Two Crude, Express Raider, Bad Dudes, Super Real Darwin, Joe & Mac, Super Burgertime, Gate of Doom and Heavy Barrel all coming soon

I ran Runescape 2 and Runescape HD on an AMD Duron 700 processor up until 2010. The game ran on anything... if you wanted to play with 2-3 fps like I did.

And still no Persona 5: Royal on PC.

I am still playing STO until the pandemic ends. 3972 hours. I might hit 4000 by the end of next month.

So, you're one of the mages in the Final Fantasy series... I would say dnd classes but honestly the Final Fantasy classes are better :b

If you could only equip one spell before you go out, how would you decide? Way back in the old world a wizard would have to prememorize what spells they'd have for the day... which is kinda why FF1 uniquely had tiered magic instead of a group mana pool

I think about fictional warfare - what spells to use for self-defense, why anything but the most effective or most efficient. Why are certain spells invented in the first place...

The invention of magic is an underdone concept, IMHO

Ok, I really wanna talk about Robotrek

ROBOTREK

It's an oddball, Slapstick, RPG by Quintet (the bestest) on the SNES where you customize a robot to go fighting things and everything about it is technically very shitty... some of the hugest game design sins there can be in an RPG, but it makes up for it largely due to charm and me gusta

Chrono Trigger

Is Lavos natively evil? I always thought a sequel should be more about how different planets handle knowing about a Lavos growing in their planet...

That aside: Was Lavos always going to destroy the planet as part of its life cycle, or did it become evil because of Zeal? The power of magic seems to come from Lavos so it could be teh evulz, but Zeal also experimented and exploited which might make Lavos like an abused pet... but IDK

Your thoughts?

Nintendo 64 Classic

What 30 games should be on the Nintendo 64 Classic?

30, that's a lot. I can think of the Nintendo mainlines like Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Starfox 64, Ocarina of Time and maybe Majoras Mask (it'd likely have one or the other)... and I have my personal favourites like Goldeneye, Bomberman, Aidyn Chronicles, Hybrid Heaven, Wrestlemania 2000 and Blast Corps (along with other RARE games like Banjo and DK)

But that could at best be only half. They don't have to be the best games on the console, just the most popular/iconic or... well... cheap to license games available.

I'd love Flying Dragon 64 to be on it :D, but something like Pokemon Stadium (1 or 2) would be very sad unless they modded it to be Gen ?8? compatible (or if it exclusively loaded from its internal Red/Blue for 1 or Gold/Silver for 2 without needing to use a Gameboy connector)

Final Fantasy 9

After replaying it for achievements... it's legitimately a very short game. I mean, the end of Disc 1 is basically the SECOND TOWN (hyperbole)

Every character is likeable, even the villains, and the plot is legitimately streamlined... possibly because of the Active Time Event thingy (copying the Tales series?) allowing you to skip flavour plot if desired.

...

If only it didn't have the worst battles in the franchise

Ya, Bolo always sticks in my head 'cuz when we finally got our first home computer I tried to get Bolo for it... but all I could get was "Bolo 3" which is NOT a little tank game vs. pillboxes, but instead a ball n paddle puzzle game

Dungeons

What is the last quality dungeon in an RPG you played?

Now, for the young people; a dungeon doesn't literally mean a dungeon - it's a gaming term for a self-contained zone where you explore, fight, solve puzzles, etc.

Final Fantasy

I always thought it'd be interesting if they would modernize their classic class system... like Fighter is a soldier with a gun, and White Mages are medics and they had their classic sprite on their, like, rank insignia and such

Summoner would be a radio operator kinda deal... aIR STRIke Here pl0x

Good morning:

I feel like talking about Breath of Fire 2 - for a long time I beat the game once a year, but stopped a whiles back - not sure why

Breath of Fire 2 has my favourite and least favourite types of replayability. My favourite being the play-through optional content; the 3 different builders and the citizens of township. My least favourite being cryptic time specific missables... but in a weird way they're still endearing - like a soft old scabby scar. This would be stuff like the ChopChop skill and teaching Katt spells. Getting the reward from Ray is perfectly Neutral, since it's a success based reward.

...Which brings me back to Paladin's Quest, one of my favourite RPGs, the mercenaries system always made the game feel fresh to me even though its clear that 3/4s of the hirelings suck - but the combination of spell mixing and each member having different elements helps to foreshadow what you might get later on... ... ... .which is a blinding seizure 'cuz this game LOVES screen flashes.

Ok, lets try a full week of a theme

ALL SNES RPGS

I already had a topic up for Robotrek, and I mentioned Breath of Fire 2 and Paladin's Quest already;

Pretty much every RPG on the SNES is great... .... yes... great

NO! Obitus is trash, 1/10... seriously, play it and then get back to me. I'd also lowly rate Drakken since it's kinda janky, but Dragon View (Drakken 2) is awesome
