Because there were only 25 in 2020, it seems.
Was just looking at my W-2 yesterday to prep for taxes and was surprised how the total was clearly off compared to my supposed annual salary. Then saw the last "2020" pay stub was from mid-Dec.

Are you sure? I dont see how there can only be 25 paychecks in a year. A paycheck happens every two weeks so each year (365.25 days) should contain 26.09 paychecks...or 26 a year and an occasional 27 paycheck year. There should be 1-2 days leftover each year that eventually add up to the 27th paycheck.

I didn't count them up.
But my pay was definitely off by about a full paycheck.
Could be an error, hadn't bothered to look more into it yet.
It's direct deposit, so I only even think about it at tax time.

https://humanresources.umn.edu/pay-and-taxes/27pd-faq

Faculty and P&A staff paid over 12 months will have their promised annual salary divided by 27rather than the typical 26to account for the 27 pay dates in fiscal 2021.

Wow, what crooks. Makes sense I guess but that sucks.

I get paid every other Wednesday, and March is going to be the first month since I started this job with a triple paycheque. That'll be nice.
