What impact would returning borrowed shares have on the price? Just giving shares back to the borrower wouldn't be a trade that impacts price at all. It's just changing ownership of those shares

That explanation had a lot to say about borrowing happening but then skipped right over the part where it explains how price is impacted and then concluded that it caused the price change.

This is the nature of investing. Most of your total gains are going to come from a few big winners. I am pretty sure at this point 100% of my gains for the last year come from just 3 companies - GME, SPCE, and CAR.

Same. AVCT +32k between commons and warrants, AMC +29k, and the grandaddy big gainer ENZC at +48k.

My biggest loss is only 5k on KOSS, which I mostly outweighed with +3.4k on GME that day (though feeling like a big dumb dumb for not holding - on trades like those I just wanted a better buy in like 80 to be more comfortable and I'm stubborn once I miss that buy in). Besides that most of my (realized) losses are much smaller too.

A few big trades is all you need. It's why I still consider myself more of a social arb trader than an investor. Plus I picked the worst time ever to transition into investing long term lol. Still hoping to get out at break even/modest profits soon in most of my trades and hope for a bearish market or especially a flash crash. Feel like one is going to happen at some point this year and I'm gonna want a lot of cash to throw at Tesla and crypto if those fall hard.

Totally cool holding huge position sizes in those for many years.

Yes, percentage of trades that are winning is a totally unimportant statistic. If you have a lot of losing trades but your winning trades tend to be bigger, it may just be because you tend to exit losing trades early. That, or perhaps that you are investing more money into high conviction trades and those are turning out better, as you would expect.

Yeah amc is my big winner. I think I was in it before anyone else when it was less than 3 dollars and calls were around 50 cents. I have had other good trades but amc is the only one where I was in before a massive spike and for a good amount of money.

If you are talking about shorting, the problem with returning borrowed stock is that to short it you have sold your borrowed stock to someone else at the high rate. When it comes time to return the borrowed stock, you are supposed to buy a stock at the new lower price to return the stock you borrowed. Thus netting the money you gained by selling your borrowed stock at the higher price after you deduct the cost of the price of the stock you had to buy after to return it.

If the stock goes up, you are buying at a higher price to return the borrowed stock. Thus, you lost money.

Ironically, even this isn't an explanation on how borrowed shares can affects the price of a stock, Decent explanation of how you gain or lose when you short sell though.

Returning borrowed stock would typically mean you have to buy the stock you sold back again. This buying action would increase the price of the stock (which is the logic behind the short squeeze). That explanation ExTha quoted says that somehow returning borrowed stock causes the price to go down. If they held it instead of selling it, they wouldn't have to buy it back so it wouldn't cause the price to increase. But why would it possibly make it go down for any reason?

The only thing I can think of is that the institution that lent the shares will immediately sell anything returned to them, but I'm not aware of any reason to assume this must happen, and happen all at once. From what I understand, brokers are actually lending out shares of their users, so they probably need to retain a lot of the returned shares.

So we're still basically just lost then as to how a stock is driven down 100+ dollars in a matter of seconds on low volume?

I'm sure the SEC and anyone else in charge of regulating this shit will go after retail investors on reddit again instead of people with the power to actually do shit like that. Because this country is awful.

We don't know that anything illegal happened. Selling large quantities of stock quickly isn't inherently illegal, right? And yesterday's action was not inconsistent with someone just submitting a market order to sell 1 million+ shares at once. I wouldn't even call it necessarily unfair - more of a wakeup call to people that they shouldn't be using stop loss orders.

Ontrak partners with insurance companies/healthcare providers to identify behavioral health issues for patients. If you have a patient that might have issues with a medication or treatment, then you'll likely see a lot of extra costs from that patient due to undiagnosed behavioral health issues. Ontrak saves a bunch of money for providers/insurance. In theory it also works to help patients though that doesn't seem to be a primary goal.

They make a ton of money - but they lost their biggest contract. I bought at 58, felt like diamond hands at 90 and then it fell apart and I sold for a loss on the way down. Note I only had like 800 bucks of this stuff. If I didnt have a little bit of baggage with OTRK, I'd probably think that this is a good time to put a little bit in.

RIGL is my other "this might be a good long term gamble". I have 1000 bucks in them, and if their R552 stuff works for Eli Lilly, then I'd expect the stock to do pretty well. But we're a ways off from that. Not even in phase 2. Eli Lilly is gearing up to figure out how they want to market it - there's a decent chance this is going to be one of the next commercials where they list 2 minutes of side effects in a couple of years. I also have Eli Lilly but have had them for a while.

Also, limit orders are awesome. The feeling of checking a stock price, finding that it is well below your limit order, and then seeing the daily high is above it, and knowing that I almost certainly got my sell order filled at or above the limit price, is great.

40 $2.5 April Calls

I'm feeling bullish about the shares so don't really care about that and if the July calls print that'll offset the loss on the April calls but I'll lose like $3000 if neither print which would suck.

I'm in DNN but I don't really consider that a huge mistake since i put so little into the riskiest calls
500 shares at $1.33
25 3/19 $2.5 calls for maybe 200 total
10 7/16 $1 calls for ~950 that I might just convert to shares at some point
