No. Not a chance.

I think it's just because nobody in the movie ever called attention to it. It's from a scene where everybody was carrying around a bunch of extra weapons and such on the witch hunt or whatever. I just never noticed, specifically, that he was holding a revolver, until it was pointed out.

It's real, most people just didn't notice or didn't care back then when it aired, and in some cases most people couldn't even see it due to the black and white and film quality.

I caught this scene on TV a few years back, and I legit thought I was watching an SNL skit where they showed wacky deleted scenes. I kept watching, waiting for the joke and finally realized it was the full movie
