Has anyone had a better cinema year than Gene Wilder did in '74? Two of the best comedy films of all time in the same. fucking. year?!

I actually like Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles. Some of the humor still for lack of a better word holds up

As far as popularity, Jim Carrey was in Ace Ventura, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber all in 1994.

Adam Sandler starred in The Waterboy and The Wedding Singer in 1998. He also had a supporting role in Dirty Work, which didn't perform well but is a bit of a cult classic.

And he was still huge on In Living Color. Carrey's career spiked in an astounding way.

I suppose Jim Carrey hit a similar year for sure. Dunno how well all those aged in comparison (I still think The Mask is somewhat underrated) to Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, but damned impressive.

The Ace Venturas and Dumb and Dumber still hold up today, imo

It's weird. I love Blazing Saddles and many other Mel Brooks films and I love Gene Wilder, but I can't get into Young Frankenstein.

I still haven't seen Young Frankenstein
First half is great.

It's kinda like T2 in that the whole getting-the-group together and figuring out what's up bit is the best part, but then once there's an actual goal for them to pursue it gets kinda boring.

Worth a watch tho, fr.

I saw them both in theaters. I wasn't around in '74, but a local theater showed both of them. They were both awesome.
